SAG Awards 2011: Best and Worst Dressed

Celebrity | 31 January 2011

by

I hope you all tuned in to the Screen Actors Guild Awards last night to see, not only some of your favorite actors win some awards, but also see how good they looked while doing it. Now that the winners of the 2011 SAG Awards have been announced, it’s time to decide who won for the best and worst dressed on the red carpet.
BEST DRESSED
My vote for best dressed went to Hailee Steinfeld in Prada. I think that on an older actress this dress could have gone horribly wrong, but it was playful and appropriate for her age. And the way she accessorized it with matching pink nail polish and a lip shaped ring, was the icing on the cake.

Mila Kunis was a very close second in a red Alexander McQueen gown. Quoted saying that it was the most comfortable gown she has ever worn, she definitely walked the red carpet with elegance and ease.
LOVELY IN LACE
Dianna Agron in Chanel Haute Couture and January Jones in Carolina Herrera were spitting images of what a classic blonde bombshell should look like: pure elegance.
SPARKLING STARS

Annette Bening in Tony Ward Couture, Paz de la Huerta in Twenty Cluny, and Lea Michelle in Oscar de la Renta brought the stars down to earth to shine for the night!

LADIES IN WHITE

Nataile Portman in Azzaro, Amy Adams in Hervé Leroux, and Eva Longoria in Georges Hobeika Couture brought in the white trend that’s been so hot this year.
JEWEL TONES

And as if they weren’t jewels themselves, Julianna Margulies in Yves Saint Laurent, Sofia Vergara in Roberto Cavalli, and Kim Kardashian in Marchesa all wore the deepest, richest jewel-toned gowns out there.

WORST DRESSED
While Hailee Steinfeld did bright right, Jennifer Lawrence did not. In her not-so-hot but oh-so bright pink gown by Oscar de la Renta Miss Lawrence’s look came off too over powering, especially with the contrast of her black accesories.
Winona Rider was a prom gown gone wrong, brought back from 2000, in Alberta Ferretti. This gown, combined with the hair, was a little too “red carpet” for us.
Unfortunately my last choice is Jane Lynch. Normally on point with her ensembles during ceremonies, her Ali Rahimi gown was too heavy on the bottom and looked much too much like a deflated balloon.

Which celebrities were on your best and worst dressed list?

Wowed yet?
Yeah, me too. The Maybelline 2011 New York limited edition calendar features some pretty insane (-ly awesome!) makeup and styling.
The theme? A New York apartment building, filled with a range of uniquely beautiful tenants living out their own fabulous lives. Models Erin Wasson, Julia Stegner, Emily DiDonato, Jessica White, Shui Pei-Qin, Lisalla Montenegro and Charlotte Kemp Muhl rocked the scenes below.
Thanks to Sassi Sam for the pics!
Shot at New York’s Pier 59 Studios in New York, these incredible pics were taken by photographer Kenneth Willardt with makeup by Maybelline’s Global Make Up Artist, Charlotte Willer.
Take a peek behind the scenes at the shoot for the calendar!
What do you think? What look is your favorite?

Monday Music Must: Chill Out and Smell the Roses

Music | 31 January 2011

“I’m froze by desire… ” to keep listening to this playlist on repeat. I’m so obsessed that I even set my Pandora station to The XX (which I recommend that you do right now) and made a Grooveshark playlist with these songs and a few others.

Infused with a combination of heart wrenching lyrics set to beats made to keep your toes tapping this playlist will definitely give you a much needed chill out, after work relaxing, or, if you’re on the go, it’s great for walking/driving/biking as well.

First up, we have a song that I can’t get off my mind lately, “Islands” by The XX.

Second we get to go to the “Golden Age” with the Beach Fossils

Third, it’s “Boxer by Lovers. This is another one that I cannot get out of my head).

I hope you listen to this short and sweet playlist while you’re out doing whatever it is you’re doing!

Have a great week!

Lady Gaga Day: Lady Gaga's Lyrics for "Born This Way" Just Released!

Music | 28 January 2011

by

The lyrics for Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” single have just been released as a teaser for every Gaga fan out there! FYI the song is going to be officially released on February 13th.

Lady Gaga is known for her outrageous and completely fearless wardrobe choices on and off the red carpet. She is a diva fashionista that has become one of the most important patron’s of the art of haute couture fashion. Whatever you think of Lady Gaga she’s undeniably a billion dollar rule breaker and trend setter. I thoroughly enjoy her unwavering courage in not EVER giving in to what people think or might think of her and her songs, especially “Born This Way”, are carrying out a message that will give courage to anyone who’s ever felt the outcast.

Here are the fist few verses of the “Born This Way Single” (if you want the rest like I did check out her site):

Verse:
My mama told me when i was young
We are all born superstars
She rolled my hair and put my lipstick on
in the glass of her boudoir

There’s nothing wrong with loving who you are
she said, cause he made you perfect, babe
So hold your head up girl and you’ll go far
listen to me when I say

Chorus:
I’m beautiful in my way
’cause god makes no mistakes
I’m on the right track baby
I was born this way

Don’t hide yourself in regret
Just love yourself and you’re set
I’m on the right track baby
I was born this way

Lady Gaga is gaudy, crazy, nutty, and a looney but I’ve never not danced to a song of hers when it comes on and I’ll always strive to have even a tenth as much fashion courage as she does. I hope these lyrics were as inspiring to you as they were to me! And remember to embrace your inner Gaga this weekend and have fun with your outfits.

Soooooo just for fun I’m going to predict that Lady Gaga snaps up half of the Jean Paul Gaultier Spring 2011 haute couture show for her upcoming outings/events.

Here are a few of my ideas, that is as if Nicolas Formichetti (her stylist) didn’t have enough!

The satin trench on the left would make a great coat for errands, while the white bondage gown would be great for dinner with the family or a first date?

Wow the lightweight body suit and cover up on the left would be perfect for candid photos of Gaga relaxing at home for Vogue or something, while on the piece on the right is performance worthy!

Then for hair… I’m sure that Gaultier has a few of these detachable mohawks laying around and will lend her one! Also the beaded/netted glasses are perfect for a little cover-up from the paparazzi.

HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!!

Did you see these?
