FashionParis Fashion Week Spring 2011 Couture: Elie Saab’s Fairy Tale Show

Is your week moving at an unbearably slow pace? I find that when my week seems mundane and boring I look to the fashion shows and websites/blogs for a little creative pick me up. These shows, even if I can’t actually go to them seem to put a smile on my face instantly. Today’s feature is on Elie Saab‘s fairy tale line that, well, always takes me to a far off land of pretty princesses and dainty fairies!

We begin with blush pinks that sparkle in the pale light.

Lavender and a light floral print get mixed into this far away place where 6 feet tall gangly models room freely in the meadows and lakes.

And here a deep red knocks a little bit of energy to our day dreaming senses and graces us with a bit of sex appeal.

Then, we’re back to neutrals with an off white color that the moon would be envious of

It’s always good to finish a show off with a little bit of drama and Saab shocks our sensual sides with the blackest of black gown that’re so sexy they’d make Angelina Jolie blush.

So did this help infuse your day with a little trip to never never land?

FashionParis Fashion Week Spring 2011 Couture: The Future In Fashion at Armani Privé!

The future has now arrived and Tron: Legacy seems to have launched fashion into a video game where clothing looks more and more surreal. The Armani Privé spring 2011 couture show seems to be embracing a new sentiment, that we have to embrace ourselves for space travel in the near future.

It seems as though the metallic threads woven into these organza garments bent light at super speeds as the models floated down the runway.

Don’t these hats remind you of the discs that the programs of Tron:Legacy use to defend themselves? Odd reference for a couture show, I know, but I couldn’t help notice that they have a strikingly similar appearance!

Luckily there was a bit of color (teal, red, and fuchsia) thrown into the mix of gun metal silvers.

At least, as the years go by, we know that we’re already equipped with some pretty sweet futuristic clothes. And, as technology advances we’ll be able to create high heeled functioning moon boots and anti-gravity defiant gowns by the time we’re forced to use them!

Are you ready to move to the moon?

FashionFloral and Fabulous: Spring’s Blossoming Trend

Floral prints are a vintage-inspired trend that has been popular for decades and is perfect for the ultimate girly appeal. From tiny and large floral prints to garden-themed accessories, blossoms adorn spring fashion. With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, why not show off this fun and flirty trend?
Here are a few tips on how to pull off this garden fresh style:
1. Do Not Overdo It: To avoid an overabundance of floral prints, try pairing something floral with a solid-colored item from your closet. This can be done with a floral top, such as the Collective Concepts Hothouse Floral Top and a neutral skirt. The Layers of Love Floral Dress provides neutral tones for those who want to add minimal floral prints to their look. A personal floral favorite is the Fairest Flower Floral Top because of the simple and light floral appeal it adds to any outfit.
2. Make A Statement: Dresses are ideal for floral prints because of the impact they create from head-to-toe. Maxi dresses are perfect for this bold statement and my ultimate favorite is the I Vinca Love You Floral Maxi Dress. For a shorter dress that also makes a big statement try the How Do You Lilac That! Floral Dress.
3. Choose A Size: It is very important to flatter your body type when choosing a floral print for yourself. If you are taller and curvier, avoid smaller flowers so your curves don’t get lost. A great option for women is the O’neill Coachella Beauty Bandeau Dress. While if you are petite, stay away from bigger floral prints so your body does not appear to be larger than it really is. A great top with a smaller floral print is the Perennial Pompom Floral Tank Top.
4. Accessorize Appropriately: For those who are hesitant about wearing floral prints, try accessorizing with floral accents such as a simple scarf. The Spanish Dancer Floral Black Scarf is perfect for adding some girly appeal to your spring wardrobe. Also, pastels are adorable when paired with floral prints and the Sweet Shortcake Pink Handbag is perfect to neutralize your garden-friendly look.

So go ahead and start adding some fresh floral-themed items to your wardrobe in order to attain the ultimate girly look. What are your favorite botanical-themed prints?

GeneralBirthday Bonanza: Fun Facts about Your Favorite Day!

January seems to be quite the birthday month here at LuLu*s, which I happen to love because it means more cake! Since today is my own birthday, I thought I’d do a little celebrating by researching some fun birthday trivia for you. Enjoy!
Fun Facts
  • The world’s largest birthday cake was created in 1989 for the 100th Birthday of the city of Fort Payne, Alabama. The cake weighed 128,238 pounds, 8 oz. and used 16,209 pounds of icing.

  • The most famous rendition of “Happy Birthday” is when Marilyn Monroe sang to “Happy Birthday, Mr President” to President John F. Kennedy at Madison Square Garden on 19 May 1962.

  • The least common birth date in the U.S. is May 22nd.

  • Since your last birthday you will have had about 1,460 dreams

  • In England, when you reach 80, 90 or 100 years of age, you receive a telegram from the Queen.

  • The most common birth date in the U.S. is October 5.

  • The earliest birthday parties in history were held because it was feared that evil spirits were attracted to people on their birthdays. At first it was only kings who were recognized as important enough to have a birthday celebration. To protect them from harm, friends and family would help celebrate their birthday by spending time with the birthday person, bringing them good wishes, thoughts and presents. Hats and noisemakers were used at birthday parties, with the thought that the noisemakers were also a way to scare away the evil spirits. (Info taken from this website.)

  • The White House will also send a birthday greeting to any U.S. citizen who is a newborn or 80 years or older.

I also found out I share a birthday with Neil Diamond and the discovery of gold in California. Yippee!
