CelebritySuperbowl MVP Aaron Rodgers Puts LuLu*s Hometown of Chico on the Map

Whether you’re a football fan or merely a Super Bowl spectator, you’ve probably heard the name Aaron Rodgers.

As MVP of yesterday’s Super Bowl, Aaron Rodgers has been making quite the stir lately, and no more so than in the quaint college town of Chico. Besides being home to the most fashionable site on the internet (yay LuLu*s!), Chico, California, is also Aaron’s birthplace and stomping grounds.

He attended Pleasant Valley High School from 1998 to 2002, and many of the girls here around the warehouse who went to school with him remember him as the boy next door, a truly caring guy who was friends with everybody and who didn’t let fame go to his head.

Above, on the right, is one of the girls (when she was much younger) behind the scenes at Trucker Deluxe (a menswear online site, also based in Chico) with Aaron Rodgers at a Pleasant Valley High football game in 2006!

Born December 2, 1983, this hometown hottie attended our local community college before being recruited by the University of California, Berkeley, where he played three impressive years before foregoing his senior year to enter the 2005 NFL Draft. After several years as second quarterback to Brett Favre, Aaron’s now at the top of his game as the starting quarterback for Green Bay Packers.

To make his day even better, word on the street is that Aaron’s rumored to be dating Gossip Girl Jessica Szohr.  Anybody else jealous?!

Good job Aaron! You make Chico proud!

GeneralColbie Caillat: “I Do” Love Her New Single!

As I was driving to work today, I heard the lovely voice of Colbie Caillat come on the radio. It was a song I had never heard before, and jammin’ along, I was determined to look it up. From her upcoming album Swing, her new single “I Do” is just the happiest way to end your week

Here’s part of the chorus. So cute!

And we’ll remember when we said
I do, I do, I do, do do do do do do do
Oh baby, I do, I do, I do, do do do do do do do
Cause every time before it’s been like
Maybe yes and maybe no
I won’t live without it, I won’t let it go
Just look at what we got ourselves into
You make we wanna say I do, I do, I do, I do, I do, I do,
Love you

Ready for a listen? Here ya go!

I can always count on Colbie for a pick-me-up when I’m dragging, and I know this song will keep me humming all day today!

Happy Friday lovely LuLu*s ladies!

BeautyA Fresh Look at Spring Makeup: Inspiration from Smashbox Cosmetics

This spring I am excited by all the beautiful neutrals that are popping up everywhere. Lace, chiffon, and other soft fabrics have been featured in every imaginable shade of nude, blush, and taupe. This fresh bloom of femininity has me thinking:  what does this mean for makeup? A while back, my questions were answered with the Smashbox Spring 2011 Collection, In Bloom. Smashbox, as you know, is one of my all time favorite brands, known for highly pigmented colors and beautiful artistry. This is an ultra-pretty lineup of shades embodying the fresh feeling of spring. I am in love with the soft and subtle greys, muted lilacs, and dewy cheeks.  This is a look that anyone can rock; how far you go is up to you!

Here are two of the featured looks, Grey Glam on the left and Petal on the right. I am especially in love with the lilac look of Petal. It’s so sultry without looking like you have on a face-full of makeup. It accentuates the eyes, and the light is hitting all the right places on the face.  You can always tone it down or kick it up a notch depending on your mood. These looks have a fierce femininity to them without being overpowering. I was so inspired and excited by this collection that I wanted to share some of my favorite tips to create a soft spring look. Incorporating some Smashbox was a no-brainer, and I have also included some other favorite standout products that work so well for me.

Brand new and highly anticipated is the Philosophy Hope in a Tinted Moisturizer. Philosophy has been a long time favorite for those of us serious about skin care. Based off their bestseller Hope in a Jar, an award winning daily moisturizer, this tinted moisturizer embodies the same qualities we love so much in the original. Now in a tinted formula, this little tube of joy is loaded with antioxidants and armed with an SPF 20 to keep you looking naturally beautiful.

Looking refreshed and alert is hard to achieve at 7 AM. Unless you are a naturally ethereal goddess and look amazing in the early hours of the morning, this will be your new secret weapon! My favorite high lighter to date, Benefit’s High Beam, is one of those products that is hard to live with out once you try it. This lumizing cream adds the perfect highlight needed to achieve that dewy, healthy look. Dab it along the tops of your cheekbone and blend out towards the temple, swipe lightly along the top of your nose, and a dab on your your chin giving you the perfect glow. Don’t worry about looking like a disco ball! This product is just glowy enough with out having too much shimmer or sparkle. Be advised that a little goes a long way and blending is key!  Luckily, it is rich and creamy enough to blend easily.

Cream blushes are the best thing to use when trying to achieve a fresh spring glow! More moisturizing than a powder blush, cream formulas are easy to apply with your fingers and blend out very naturally. My new favorite is the In Bloom Creamy Cheek Duo from Smashbox in their new spring line, In Bloom, mentioned above. I love the peach and deep pink combo. Natural flush? Yes please!

This is the grand daddy of eye shadow paletttes! Introducing the fabulous, the one, and only Smashbox In Bloom Eyeshadow Palette! This amazing set has 10 soft shimmer and matte shadows to create a myriad of combinations this spring. If you buy one beauty product this season make sure you snatch up this pallete before it is too late. You will not be dissapointed! Imagine the possibilities!

An amazing mascara has no season, and the Dior favorite that has been making the beauty world go ’round for some time is Diorshow. Runway inspired and crafted to create the most dramatic and thick lashes, this mascara is a favorite of pros and makeup fanatics around the world. With spring makeup being softly smokey in flower-inspired shades, a great lash line will be very important to draw attention to and open up those eyes! This product will take your lashes to the next level. While not exactly the price of your typical drugstore mascara, it is definitely worth every penny!

Last but definitely not least is the oh-so-popular Kiehl’s Lip Balm #1. Kiehl’s has been around since 1851 so you better believe they know how to make a good lip balm! This little tube will have you addicted you from day one, so watch out! Perfectly smooth and moisturizing, this lip balm leaves the slightest shine to complete your spring look! Stick this in your pocket or purse and trust me, don’t leave home without it!

Now that you have all the necessary ingredients to create the face of Spring 2011, you need to get shopping to find some to-die-for spring wardrobe necessities!

FashionScarlet Seduction: Red Rules the Day!

Anybody who has ever met me knows that that my all-time favorite color is red. I have a red car, red phone, red Wii, red wallet, red lipstick, and red boots. (As I write this, I’m even wearing a red sweater dress. Overboard? Hmmm…) So, it should come as no surprise that for this week’s Laurie’s Loves I was in the mood for a little pick-me-up from my happiest hue.

With a little bit of red lipstick, the Scarlet Seduction One Shoulder Red Dress is just sooo freaking gorgeous. It’s graceful, retro, and yet totally modern at the same time. I would wear this dress to an art gala, a wedding, a New Years party, Christmas, Valentines Day, Fourth of July party, a work mixer, a graduation party…yep, pretty much the list is endless. We’ve already sold out once, so get this dress while you can!

And let’s just talk about these Jeffrey Campbell Harris 2 Red Knee High Heel Boots. Whether you want to channel your inner Mary Horowitz or your just plain rockin’ sense of style, these boots are a must-have. Yes, I am drooling a little bit. For the glam girl, how about the Mixx Petal 05 Red Kid Suede Rhinestone Stiletto Pumps? Hint: these are on sale!

I was immediately drawn to the Waterways of Bruges Red Purse  for its color, but after examining it for a few minutes I decided I loved the purse itself. I think Audrey Hepburn, classic movies, European glamor. Yes, please!

Okay, and I know this is cheesy, but since my last name is Hartt, I kindof have to milk it a little bit. In addition to loving red, I also love most thing hearts. The Love Sensor Red Heart Purse is no exception, and while the heart motif is definitely well-used this time of year, this purse has soooo much potential. If you pair it with jeans and a vintage shirt or a toned-down LBD, you can wear your heart on your, er, shoulder? in a fresh new way.

So now that you have my (not-so) secret color obsession, what’s yours? What tones rules your wardrobe?
