(And yes, Neon Hitch is her real name.)
Born in England and growing up traveling the world on a bus with her hippy parents, Neon spent her formative years as a street performer and trapeze artist. At sixteen, she ran away to India, latering returning to London in pursuit of a singing career. After touring with several artists, including 50 Cent, she hopped the pond to New York where, as luck would have it, she met her now manager James Johnson and producer Benny Blanco.
In between making her own clothes and traveling in her trailer, she’s been working with such amazing artists as Imogen Heap, Ke$ha, Mike Posner, 3OH!3, Bruno Mars, Jason Derulo, Cathy Dennis, Greg Kirsten, Ryan Tedder, Rivers Coumo (Weezer), David Brook, and Sky Ferreira. Neon was also lucky enough to have a session with Kara DioGuardi, who eventually signed her to Warner Brothers.
She is currently working on a new album entitled “Beg Borrow and Steal,” but luckily, you can get a preview of her eclectic music right now!
I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait for her album to come out so I can dowload it to my running playlist! In order to give you a little sense of this wild child’s happy spirit, I’ve posted this interview from her website below:
Do you have any nicknames?
– Nee Nee
Where are you from?
– The World
What are your top 5 favorite songs?
Sia – “Breathe Me”
Edward Sharpe – “Home”
Miike Snow – “Silvia”
Kate Bush – “Army Dreamers”
Daniel Johnston – “Some Things Last A Long Time”
If you could magically transport yourself to one place right now, where would it be?
She cites her musical influences as The Beatles, Sia, Kate Bush, Madonna, Michael Jackson, Jay Thomas, the Spice Girls, Daniel Johnston, Nelly Furtado, Miike Snow, Amadou & Miriam, Erykah Badu, The Police. That’s a pretty diverse group of artists, but I think it really reflects her unique creation of soulful, bohemian pop music.
