CelebrityThe New Girl we can’t get enough of: Zooey Deschanel

Oh my goodness . . . can Zooey Deschanel do no wrong?
Of all the things I look forward to in life, new television programs don’t typically make the cut. It’s true that I recently stumbled upon the horribly wonderful reality show Love in the Wild and bring it up at work EVERY Thursday morning, but new television shows can all-too-often be such unfulfilling forms of entertainment that they often slip from their time slots without anyone (espcially me) noticing.
However, big screen starlet, Zooey Deschanel, paying me a visit on those dreary Tuesday nights sounds almost too good to be true! Hello New Girl!

The Gist: The quirky and “adorkable” Jess (Deschanel) finds new roommates after experiencing a traumatic and rather odd break-up. Each with their own distinct personalities, the three male roomies reluctantly take her in and help her get back in the game. Together, along with Jess’s professional model BF, form a happily dysfunctional (and hopefully hilarious) family. Check out the trailer below:

Fun Fact: Besides being the obvious star of New Girl, Zooey also wrote and recorded the show’s theme song!
New Girl premieres Tuesday, Sept. 20th at 9:00pm on FOX.
Anyone else looking forward to the New Girl?

ArtMike Stilkey Hits the Books… With Paint!

I’ve always loved the way a shelf full of books looks on a wall, but I’d never dreamt it could look this cool:

Los Angeles artist Mike Stilkey has been hitting the books… on the spine… with a combination of ink, colored pencil, paint and lacquer. SO cool! He describes his work as “melancholic and at times a whimsical cast of characters inhabiting ambiguous spaces and narratives of fantasy and fairy tales.” It seems fitting that such fantastical inspiration should come to life on top of stacks of old books filled with stories of their own.

I love the third dimenson of this one!

In a press release for a recent exhibit at the Rice Gallery, Stilkey explained what drew him to the old books, and how they sparked this creative idea:
“… sometimes by the title, or more the look of it, the antiqueness of it, or the wear and tear of it. Sometimes there’s a weird illustration. I’ve got these books and I’ll never read them, but I want them for some reason and I’ve never known why. And then I started drawing on them.”
Couldn’t have said it better myself.
