FashionLooks We ♥: Embellished Collars

I currently have the biggest crush on oxford collars, which had recently turned into full on infatuation with the emergence of detachable and embellished collar micro trend. Both sharp and classy, playful and professional, this can be seen on the catwalks of SS 2012 shows such as Louis Vuitton. Plus, they really work out for any style; girly, edgy, prep, vintage, you name it! Come, take a journey with me into the world of collars.
Oh pearls, they’re gorgeous aren’t they? They add this delicacy to and outfit, and remind me of pure innocence. I love the idea of rocking a full on monochromatic look with the accent of pearls at the neck.

Who doesn’t love some bling around their neck? These collars have such a lovely vintage feel to them, I can just imagine the full a line skirt and mary-janes paired with these beauties. These are definitely some of my favorites pictures of these glittery masterpieces.
The stud is my absolute favorite of them all, but that’s just the kind of girl I am. What really makes me love this trend so much is that it gives you the perfect amount of flare. It’s a genius idea to add simple intensity to such a basic piece.
I am a sucker for cats (Um, Cat Litas anyone?), so I love these last two picture I found. The piece de resistance is the statement necklaces paired with the collars. Gives it that extra oomph, you know? I almost feel a DIY blog coming on…

So are you guys as excited about collars as I am? Or is just a miss for you? Let me know!

ArtStill In Love with Unicorns: The Art of Tamar Mogendorff

Ahhhh, there’s nothing I love more than discovering an awesome new artist and getting to share them with all of YOU! This week’s feature is on a fresh Brooklyn-based textile artist, Tamar Mogendorff, whose work will help you arrive at your intended happy place. From soft bird cages to glitter-horned stag heads, the whimsical nature of this work reiterates that old maxim that “age ain’t nothing but a number.” (At least that’s what my inner-child is saying right now.)

Check out this studio shot from Lena Corwin!
Anyone ready for a field trip to Tamar’s studio?

FashionOracle Fox for Billabong!

One of my favorite bloggers has collaborated with world famous surf-brand, Billabong to create an amazing collection of pieces! Mandy Shadforth of the Oracle Fox blog has been a long time favorite of mine.
She has a unique style, sort of like the most rad surfer girl you know meets gypsy badass! Teaming up with Billabong seems like an easy fit and the pieces shown have been absolutely awesome! We were lucky enough to get our hands on some here at Lulus, take a look below for a few of the pieces.
Perfect lightweight knit for winter layering or even for throwing in your suitcase in preparation for your tropical getaway!
I love the black and white pattern and the oversize shape! Perfect to throw on and be casual, yet still look super cool!
Who doesn’t love chambray? I do, and these shorts are an ideal cover up while at the beach!
Lace-covered short shorts! Throw on a crop top and you’re ready for a beach day!
Make sure to check out the Oracle Fox blog for some amazing photos, designer collection coverage and endless edgy-boho style!

FashionThe Girl On the Cake: Backstage Meadham Kirchhoff

You may have seen some of the sticky-sweet looks spun by designers Ed Meadham and Ben Kirchhoff for their Spring/Summer 2012 collections . . . or perhaps you blacked-out from the intense sugar rush they gave you.
Nevertheless, in an artistic notion to frost over the feminine ideals seen in all forms from kitschy cake-toppers to bedraggled beauty queens, the dynamic duo has paid homage to nineties grunge, candy-coatings, and literally playing with dolls.

NewsAlexa Chung’s 24 Hour Catwalk Series Premiere

So, did you hear that Alexa Chung has a new show? And this time it’s all about fashion?? Yes!!!! 24 Hour Catwalk premieres tonight (Tuesday, January 10th @ 10/9c), and let me just tell you why my DVR is set to record.

Yeah, it’s kind of another Project Runway (which just premiered an “All-Star” season), but trade Heidi for Alexa, and trade Michael Kors & Co for designer Cynthia Rowley, fashion editor Derek Blasberg (New York Times best-selling author, Editor at Large for US Harper’s Bazaar, and Senior Editor of V, and VMan) and publicist James LaForce, (a “highly-regarded media and communications consultant”). Alright, I’m on board.

Now, instead of a whole cast and a whole season, we get four new designers per episode (slashed to two after a “first cut” elimination challenge), who have 24 hours (a-ha!) to complete a full runway collection. The prize: $10,000. Not bad. Also, the designers are provided with a “talented and opinionated” sewing team to help them make it to the finish line. Cue the drama. Add in some mystery trunks, and we’ve got a healthy blend of everything I love to see in my reality TV queue.
Oh, sneak peek? Don’t mind if I do…

Afraid you’re going to miss it? Worry not! You can watch the first full episode here. And for future reference, watch Tuesdays at 10/9c on Lifetime. Now here’s hoping Alexa makes a ton of wardrobe changes…
