DIY: Rose Gold Eye Shadow

DIY | 31 May 2012

by

Rose gold is IN in a big way right now, making appearances in shoes, jewelry, and beauty products. But as common as the shade seems to be on stars like Megan Fox, Diane Kruger, Mila Kunis and Elizabeth Olsen, this up-and-coming color most likely isn’t in your home palette. No problem! You can use two existing colors to achieve this coveted look, and it’s so simple you’ll die!
What to Do: I used Urban Decay in Woodstock (fuchsia) and Toasted (sort of a suede-y bronze). Mix them one part fuchsia to two parts bronze, and there you have it! The best part about it is now you have three colors to work with instead of just one!

Love It or Leave It: Lindsay Lohan as Elizabeth Taylor

Celebrity | 30 May 2012

by

Well, they let her on Glee, so she must be doing something right. LiLo seems to be getting her act together, enough to have been cast as Liz Taylor for the upcoming Lifetime biopic Liz & Dick. It seems that executive director Larry Thompson has had to defend his decision, but it seems he may have made a pretty good one.

Not only did she play a fairly convincing portrayal of Elizabeth in a 2006 issue of Interview Magazine, but it turns out she and the Dame have a lot in common. The New York Times pointed this out: “Taylor, like Ms. Lohan, was in and out of the Betty Ford Center as she contended with drug and alcohol addiction. Both were child stars: Taylor had her film debut at 9, in There’s One Born Every Minute; Ms. Lohan at 12, in The Parent Trap. As a young woman, each had her brushes with the paparazzi.”

In the images above, Lohan models some of the costumes she’ll be wearing to channel her inner diva. The modern interpretations of some of Ms. Taylor’s most famous outfits are just as stunning as their original counterparts.
Apparently, LiLo beat out other hopefuls like Megan Fox and Olivia Wilde, so they must have really wanted her!
Filming is scheduled to begin June 4, and apparently they are still hunting for the perfect Richard Burton to play opposite her. I, for one, hope it gets made, not only because I love Elizabeth Taylor, but because I’m rooting for the underdog here.
Anybody else with me? Or do you think this will be a total flop?

DIY: At Home Spa Treatments

DIY | 29 May 2012

Spa treatments are a must for achieving that healthy summer glow, but heading to the spa can be so expensive! Before you throw on your fav pair of shorts or a cute summer dress, try these at home spa treatments with ingredients you can find in your own kitchen!

Getting summer-ready skin couldn’t get any easier than this and all it takes is two ingredients (in equal parts) per treatment to help get your skin feeling its best.

1. Rosewater and coconut milk make the most relaxing and soothing bath. The therapeutic scent of the rosewater is so relaxing and the creamy coconut milk will make your skin super soft and silky. Throw a quarter cup of rosewater into your bath with a quarter cup of coconut milk and soak the stress away.

2. Honey and olive oil are a great mix for a skin moisturizer. The smooth mixture of honey and olive oil make a great moisturizing mask for your skin. Mix these two ingredients in equal parts and a keep the leftovers in a small mason jar in your shower for a quick go-to when your skin is feeling dull or dry.

3. Did you know that brown sugar is filled with vitamin B6 (great for hair and skin) and honey has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties? This facial/body scrub will gently exfoliate while cleaning out some of skin’s impurities along the way. Scrub in a circular motion for about 30 seconds and rinse in warm water.

 4. Lip treatments are often overlooked but a little lip balm just isn’t enough sometimes. Using safe un-petroleum jelly and raw sugar make a great little scrub for your lips when the weather dries them out. Rub a little on your lips and rinse with a warm washcloth for a smooth lip that’s ready for a gorgeous gloss.

 5. This mixture of lemon juice and egg yolk  is great for an anti-redness facial and for spot treating pesky blemishes. Use this treatment about once a week or as needed to give your face a cool, fresh feel and take away redness from blemishes or sun exposure.
