BeautyLulus How-To: Rainbow Eye Shadow Tutorial

OK, so I know that rainbow eyes may not be what you wear to the office, but I couldn’t help indulging in this season’s trend by creating an eye-catching look on our model Grace. If you’re even a little bit daring, you can try this look for a festival or a Friday night, and you’ve got to admit, it’s pretty crazy cool!
We used the /0/” target=”_blank”>Paint Eye Shadow Palette by Milani, which is wonderfully pigmented for some seriously saturated color!
1. Start with a layer of foundation to act as a primer, but also to help the colors come out truer. Working from the innermost corner of the eye, apply your first color.

2. Use a separate brush with concealer to straighten out the edge; the concealer will act as an eraser to cancel out any stray color!

3. Continue adding lines of color and concealer as desired, and work your final color from underneath the eye to the outermost edge.

4. Finish with black eyeliner and mascara!
Hot Tip: Use a different brush for each color so that you can touch up your colors along the way!

BeautyLulus How-To: Cleaning Your Makeup Brushes

Imagine how many times we use our makeup brushes on a weekly basis. It is so easy for dirt and oils to get trapped in those bristles which can lead to breakouts and clogged pores, and we don’t want that! I have found a great way to clean makeup brushes on the cheap with things that you probably already have in your kitchen. This is the easiest most efficient way I’ve found to clean my brushes at home and it works wonders!

Here’s what you’ll need:
  • Olive oil
  • Gentle dishwashing soap
  • Plate
  • Paper towels
  • Dirty brushes!
Let’s get started:
1. First you’ll need to combine equal parts of the olive oil and dish soap on a small plate with a little bit of tap water.
2. Swish the tips of your brushes in the mixture, one at a time. Don’t worry if the mixture gets cloudy or dirty, it’ll clean quite a few brushes before you’ll need to start over!

3. After swishing them around and getting all of the makeup off, run them (brush side down) under warm water while rubbing the bristles to get them extra clean.
4. Lay brushes flat on a paper towel and let them dry overnight
This is such an easy how-to that will come in handy whenever your brushes need a quick cleansing. Your face and your wallet will thank you!

ContestsArt Power: Kid Acne for Elle Belgium

Cartoonists rejoice: art is not dead, especially if you have a hot girl to draw on. Case in point: this incredible editorial by Brussels-based photographer Hicham Riad, featuring the lovely model Robin Holzken and the artwork of UK-based graffiti artist Kid Acne. Pairing bright pops of color with a flawless summer wardrobe and an assembly of quirky characters, this shoot is the perfect fit for Elle Belgium‘s June 2012 edition. Hair and makeup by the talented Vasko Todorof.
When you’re done, check out the behind-the-scenes creation of Kid Acne’s designs for this shoot on his blog. They’re pretty fantastic for one, and I really enjoyed seeing how the photos were made.
