GeneralGood Eats: Leopard Spotted Cupcakes

As Wild Week continues, I wanted to bring you a sweet treat tutorial so you can celebrate with desserts, too! After much research on Pinterest and baking blogs, I found a super cool way to get leopard spots inside of your cupcakes!

Here’s what you’ll need:
Cake mix (I used yellow cake, chocolate cake, and carrot cake mixes.)
Frostings for all of your cake mixes (I used vanilla, chocolate and cream cheese frosting.)
Wax paper

1. Bake the chocolate and carrot cakes as directed on the box. Don’t worry about these being perfect, because you’ll crumble them up into a cake ball mixture next!
2. After the cakes are baked and cooled, scoop them into separate mixing bowls and crumble. Add frosting to each by the spoonful until it is malleable enough to roll into cake balls. Place the mixtures in the freezer for about 30 minutes so that they become easier to roll.
3. Take the chocolate mixture and flatten it between two sheets of wax paper, then break into flat chunks. Roll the carrot cake mixture into tiny ball shapes – they don’t have to be perfect because no two leopard spots are ever the same!
4. Place each carrot cake ball into a chunk of the flattened chocolate mixture and press around the carrot cake ball. Leave some of the carrot cake showing through (this will create the contrasting spots).
5. Prepare your last batch of cake mix. In cupcake tins or a cake pan, alternate a layer of cake balls and a layer of batter, repeating until filled. Note that for cupcakes, you’ll only need 5-6 small cake balls in each cup.
6. Bake as directed on the box and cut down the middle (or take a bite!) to see the wild design in the center!

FashionWild Week: Accessories Report

Because cat is where it’s at!

We couldn’t host a week full of leopard-y luxuries without including a few feline-inspired trinkets! Of course the leopard print dress is a must-have for every closet, but sometimes just a touch of animal print is your ticket to ride. Spruce up your shift dresses with an animal print belt and add a matching clutch, or let some adorable catty flats peek out from your favorite wide-leg pants. The results are purrrr-fect!

FashionLuLu*s Style Studio: Phoenix!

We had been anxiously awaiting our Style Studio event in Phoenix for so long that once it crept up on us we could barely believe it was finally time! I had heard a lot about Phoenix’s fashion community and although to some it seemed like an unlikely place for a fashion blogger event, it was a huge success! The positivity and passion of the community was so apparent and everyone was so excited to be there. The crowd always makes an event and for that I would like to say, thanks Phoenix, you made the evening! Hundreds of fashionistas poured through the doors, dressed to the nines and ready to shop, network, and party!

Radiant Cosmetics was one of our attending sponsors and they brought a makeover station so guests could try their products and hear about the great mission behind the company! Radiant’s mission is to help garner awareness for human trafficking by raising funds through cosmetics. They have so many wonderful pieces in their line and with such a positive mission, we were truly happy to have them there!
At our gifting suite table, we had an amazing selection of free swag. Orly nail polishes were a guest fave!

Twistband hair ties offered up in vibrant neons! These are super awesome because since they are so flexible they don’t leave a dent in your hair!

Goody elastics! A childhood classic that has stood the test of time for me! I’m so glad they contributed, and our guests were stoked as well!

Guests browsing our gifting suite! EO hand sanitizing sprays were being raved about all night! Everyone loved the portability and the fresh scent.

Trying to decide on your favorite POP Beauty eyeshadow trio is harder than it looks . . . trust me. These guests were having a blast looking over the selection POP Beauty sent over!

Funk Off! vegan lip balms were super minty and fresh, and snatched up in no time!

Mr. Fun Booth set up the best photo booth I’ve seen. With a foot pedal to start and a monitor in front of you, you get to grab a funny prop, pose and get your printed photos in no time. It was a great way for everyone to get silly and make some memories.

Shopping our pop-up shop with specially curated sections based on your look is a Style Studio tradition. You follow a printed style map to find your fashion destination and then you head over to that section to browse looks pulled just for you!

KIND Snacks has been on my personal radar for some time, so when they agreed to come on out I was so excited! Natural and healthy snacks are their specialty and what better way to stay fueled for a night of shopping with your friends?

POM Wonderful is one of those brands that everyone loves. Refreshing, natural, and packed full of healthful benefits and flavors, their product is something we could really get used to having around all the time. Luckily, we were able to work with them for Style Studio Phoenix on a special mocktail just for our guests: the POM Mimosa (with sparkling cider and fresh POM juice) was a smash hit! All night, everyone was carrying a little cup of happiness and chatting up how delicious it was. What a great way to ring in the fall, with pomegrantes and yummy apple cider!

Of course we brought the spinning prize wheel! This lovely lady won $50 and is pretty excited. Who wouldn’t be??

One of the absolute best parts of the evening was having blogger extraordinaires, Erin of Calivintage and Mara of M Loves M (respectively). I absolutely ADORE these two and have had the pleasure of working with them for a while now. Getting them out to Arizona was a dream and the crowd thought so too. Erin hosted a style competition where we had her pick several attendees from the crowd who had rad personal style, then sent them over to the LuLu*s shop to create an outfit to be judged a winner. The winner got to take home their styled outfit and the runner-ups got to take home a piece each! So much fun and so happy to have had Erin there with us. Mara presented her favorite fall styles with LuLu*s pieces such as peplums, metallics, military styles, and more! We gave away the pieces to lucky winners who were happy to get some fall forecasting swag! Watching Mara speak was great because she is just the sweetest girl with a lovely stage presence!

Bringing Style Studio to Phoenix was a huge success and we were so happy to meet you all. I can’t wait to start planning the next big event! Where would you like LuLu*s Style Studio to come next?

BeautyManicure Monday: Leopard Nails with Sam and Syl!

Leopard print. Whether you wear it like a neutral or think it’s for tacky cougars, you just know it’s coming back in style every fall. It’s been done in every colourway but the classic natural leopard keeps coming back. We’re happy to be a part of Wild Week here on the LuLu*s blog & we’re gonna show you how easy it can be to do a classic leopard look on your nails!
Here’s what we’re going for:

What you’ll need:
- yellow base coat
- brown colour for spots
- a black nail art pen
- quick dry top coat
Start with a few coats of your base colour in yellow. If you’re going for a modern leopard, you can go for an alternate base coat colour like white or grey!
Use your brown colour and draw some random spots onto each nail. You can just use the brush applicator from the bottle because it doesn’t matter if the spots are mis-shapen or imperfect!
Then take your black nail art pen and draw haphazard circles around each spot. Make it a sloppy circle and don’t connect it all the way around. Having a few gaps makes it more leopard-spot-like. Then fill in some gaps with small black spots.
Do the same to the rest of the spots on your nails & then top coat!
…and there you have it! I ended up deciding to add an accent nail to break up all the leopard and painted one nail brown :)
So how are you ladies gonna show your wild side this week?
