Silly me, all these years I’ve been reading books!
Over the past 30 years, Guy Laramée‘s resume has accumulated all of this: stage writing, stage directing, contemporary music writing, musical instrument design and building, singing, video, scenography, sculpture, installation, painting and literature. Dayam. So I guess sculpture + literature = awesome book carvings. Works for me. Though, I do have a particular affinity for book mutilation.
Though the artist’s statement is all about “the erosion of cultures” and “project(ing) us into this thick Cloud of Unknowing”, I like to think of it more as, “Oh the places you’ll go!” when you crack open a book. But erosion is nice too….
