BeautyProm Perfect Hair – The Tousled Ponytail

We’re absolutely loving ponytails for a simple yet chic hairstyle for special occasions! With prom just around the corner, we wanted to share our latest favorite take on the classic ponytail. This version features soft texture and tousled volume for a romantic look with a little bit of an edge. Read on to get the full steps for this prom perfect hairstyle!

Step 1: If your natural hair texture is straight or wavy, start with clean, air-dried hair. If you have naturally curly hair, blow out clean hair with a round brush for a sleeker starting point.

Step 2: Add texture to hair by wrapping 1-inch sections around a 1½-2 inch barrel curling iron. The result should be loose waves. If your waves are slightly springier, don’t worry! As you continue working with the hairstyle the waves will loosen to a more natural finish.

Step 3:  After curling all of you hair, gather the top section, starting at the arches of your eyebrows and ending at the back of the crown, creating a V shape. Twist and clip out of the way.

Step 4: Gather the remaining loose hair into a high ponytail at the back of your crown. Secure firmly with a hair tie, but be careful to keep some texture on the sides.

Step 5: Once the ponytail is secure, unclip the top portion of your hair and with a fine-tooth comb or teasing comb, lightly backcomb the underside of the top section. This will add volume and texture to the top of the hairstyle. Split the top section into two halves on the left and right side of your head.

Step 6: Take the right section of hair and loosely twist back toward the ponytail. Secure in place with bobby pins.

Step 7: Repeat Step 6 on the left side of the head.

Step 8: You should now have two loose ends of hair pinned at the top of the ponytail. Take these loose ends and lightly wrap around the base of the ponytail, covering the hair tie. Pin ends in place with bobby pins, being sure to secure them through the base of the ponytail for a firm hold.

Step 9: Review your hair in a mirror (it helps to have a handheld mirror or phone camera to check out the back!) and lightly adjust pieces until you have your desired texture. Spray with texturizing spray to help strands maintain their tousled appearance. You may also want to secure the hairstyle with firm hold hairspray.

Step 10: That’s it! Check out your chic ponytail! This hairstyle would look great with a variety of prom dress necklines and styles!

FashionTaylor Swift Rocks It on the Red Carpet at the People’s Choice Awards!

My best dressed choice from the People’s Choice Awards is, the lovely, Taylor Swift, in a J. Mendel creation.

Although it is the same dress that Natalie Portman is wearing for the cover of Vogue US for January 2011 (see below), Miss Swift brings her own classic beauty to it on the red carpet. Adding a bit of red lipstick took this ensemble to the next level. Also, if you didn’t know Taylor Swift won Favorite Country Artist!

This beautiful peachy dress hits that sweet spot in every girl and will most likely be created into a million different and much more affordable look-a-likes soon. So keep your eyes out for dresses similar to this one on Lulus!

FashionFashion Week: Dsquared² Turns Nerdy Into Trendy!

Don’t let the snobs of fashion EVER tell you being a nerd isn’t cool.

Dsquared² has released a collection of nerd inspired outfits for Spring 2011 fit for a tom boy princess or a fashion goddess.

They always keep it fun! What do you think about glasses with evening gowns?

As someone who does have glasses, I think it is refreshing, but might not be for everyone!

FashionFashion Week Has BEGUN: Hot New Trends to Come!!!

Drum roll………………..

Fashion week has officially begun and we’ll be reporting on our favorite of the hot new trends to come!

Here are two shows from the Spring 2011 Ready-To-Wear that I actually found quite interesting.

First of all I thoroughly enjoyed breezing through this sandy collection by Jen Kao

My favorite part were the macramé knee high sandal boots.

Overall, I felt as if I had taken a breath of fresh after going through this collection. Despite the fact that she kept it safe with going almost completely colorless I think there are some amazing pieces in this collection.

After the ocean breeze of Jen Kao I needed a little urban jungle color in my life. I looked through the Peter Som collection to get my fix of color.

Som proved that mix-matching patterns is still as hot as monotone colored dresses.

What do you think of these two collections?

Do you go for colorful or monochrome looks?
