GeneralLuLu*s How-To: Throw Your Own Tea Party!

When I was a little girl, tea parties with my stuffed animals and friends were among my favorite things to do. However, just because I am older now doesn’t mean that I have to say good-bye to this beloved pastime, and neither do you! I recently decided to plan a tea party for my best friend’s birthday, so I saw it as a perfect idea to share with all you lovely LuLu*s ladies!
Tea parties are especially fun because they can be thrown anytime, day or night. Since Victorian times, tea parties have been a social activity where women could get away from their husbands and joke and laugh. An excuse to get away with the girls? Sign me up!
Here is how to throw the perfect tea party for you and your girls to enjoy:
Theme: Themes are essential to any party planning. For a tea party, you can choose anything from a high-society theme, where everyone has to be dressed up and wearing hats and gloves, or a garden theme! The theme I will be outlining for you is a Mad Hatter Tea Party since I am utterly obsessed with Alice in Wonderland!
Location: Tea parties can be either indoors or outside, but I prefer mine to be located in gardens or parks. Personally, I think Mother Nature should always make an appearance at any party.
Decorations: For the Alice in Wonderland theme, I decided on stringing playing cards together and hanging them on the wall. Also, I baked goodies and wrote “Eat Me” in icing and “Drink Me” on all of the tea cups. You can also put some cute little candles and fresh flowers on the table for ambiance. An imporant tip when decorating is to not overdo the table, as you don’t want it to look cluttered and messy!
Invitations: One of my favorite techniques for making any kind of card is to decoupage them. You can use different kinds of paper and stickers to create your very own invitations. I like the idea below, which uses a fake tea bag that actually detaches from the invitation!
Place Settings: A pretty table cloth is essential for making your table look preciously put together. Of course, you should not forget your tea set. The tea pot should be the focal point of the table, since it is a party devoted to tea. Also, placecards are a great touch to the table so that everyone knows where they are sitting, thereby avoiding all that awkward shuffling around. You can make these yourself, or you can type them up and print them so that they are neat and professional-looking. Finish the table off with platters of food, utensils, and little plates. Don’t forget cute napkins so no one gets their sticky little paws all over the tea pot!
Sweets: Sweets are the typical treat served at any tea party. Some suggestions are cookies, cupcakes, muffins, scones, or brownies. Don’t think that you can’t add a modern spin to your party, however; go ahead and serve sushi, sandwiches, or whatever suits your fancy!

I think you ladies are officially ready to start planning!

BeautyBeauty Trend: Triangle Eyeshadow

Have you heard of triange eye makeup?

This intriguing new beauty trend, in which makeup is applied to the inner corner of the eyes and all the way up the brow, has been showing up in New York fashion shows as a hot new high fashion look.
As a result of its dramatic effect, this is not a typical beauty trend that you would wear to the office, but it is a great choice if you are going out dancing with the girls! What I love most about this beauty trend is its dramatic and structured 3-D effect that is sure to catch attention all on its own, without too many accessories or other makeup.

Here are some tips if you want to experiment with this trend:
1.With an eye shadow of choice, draw a triangle from your eyelid to your brow bone. An easy way to do this is hold the stick of your brush vertically from the inner corner of your eye to where your eyebrow starts. This ensures you getting your starting point straight so everything looks symmetrical. If you want to go for a more natural appeal, then apply neutral tones. If you want your eyes to be big and bold, choose darker shades for that dramatic effect.
2. You want to be sure to apply shadow underneath eye as well, just under the waterline.
3. Next, go over your eyelid with a lighter shade of eye shadow to bring everything together.
4. Thinly go over both lash lines with your choice of eyeliner, and then follow with mascara.
5. Now pair the look with your sassiest heels and you are ready for a night out on the town!

Lady Gaga has been a fan of this trend quite some time before I started to see it on the runway. Trend-setter extraordinaire, Gaga never ceases to amaze me…

BeautyBeauty Tip: 10 Healthy Foods for Your Skin

If there’s one thing we girls are always concerned about, it’s good skin. We all want it fresh, clear, and glowing! As we all know, diet is a huge factor to consider when managing your skincare routine. With summer swiftly approaching, diet changes are a must to looking and feeling great.
Things that should always be part of your diet are water, whole wheat products, lean meat (or other kinds of protein if you don’t eat meat), and low fat dairy products. In addition to these basic necessities, I found 10 foods that are essential to the well-being of your skin.
1. Tomatoes – These beauties are rich in anti-oxidants, increasing your ability to absorb free radicals, thereby reducing many skin problems.
2. Berries – These include blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, and strawberries. All of these are rich in antioxidants and are so yummy! Throw them in cereal or make a refreshing fruit salad.
3. Broccoli – This vegetable is AMAZING for you. One of the many things this vegetables contains is Vitamin A, a vitamin that is great at improving the turnover of cells in the skin.
4. Low-Fat Yogurt – All low fat dairy products are great for your skin because they contain Vitamin A, which detoxifies your skin and makes you feel replenished.
5. Carrots – This is another great source of Vitamin A, especially if you are not a fan of leafy greens.
6. Fish – Fish contains Omega3, which is a good fat to consume to aid in the absorbtion of vitamins and nutrients. This is also an anti-inflammatory food, which soothes itchy, red, and blotchy skin.
7. Oranges – Oranges contain Vitamin C, which is a necessary ingredient in keeping your skin sparkling. This vitamin even delays and reduces wrinkles! I am going out to buy a gallon of orange juice asap!
8. Eggs – Eggs are a great source of iron for those who do not like red meat. Iron is an essential part of the diet, necessary for building bones, muscle proteins, and red blood cells. A healthy, functioning body is important in maintaining healthy skin.
9. Green Tea – This glorious drink contains polyphenols, which have anti-inflammatory agents that keep your skin from being blotchy. Green tea is also an antioxidant that fights the bacteria that make our skin age early.
10. Avocado – One of my personal favorites, avocado is rich in B-complex vitamins and essential oils. Avocados work as  anti-inflammatory agents and soothe red skin.
There are plenty more great foods out there, but this will give you a great start to healthy skin. Plus, you get to enjoy all the delicious food and produce of the season. Yum!

FashionAdorable Alert: Let’s Get Ready to Ruffle

Attention: If you do not have something ruffly in your closet, then you must act fast! This weekend my grandmother let me go through some of her vintage clothing that she wore when she was my age, and if she weren’t so itty bitty, then maybe I would be able to fit in some of them! Ruffles have been in fashion since before our grandmothers were little girls, and this is not going to change any time soon.

Ruffles can be considered a staple of vintage wear, and they have an ultimate girly appeal that cannot be beat. Since I am already obsessed with florals, pastels, and other items in this category, ruffles are right up my alley!

I went around the Lulu*s warehouse and found some of my ruffle favorites:
