GeneralA Day in the Life at LuLu*s: Funky Hat Day

Since we couldn’t make it to the royal wedding last week, we decided to pretend we were there at work! The Royal Wedding invitation clearly stated that ladies were required to wear a hat for the wedding service. In order to respect the wishes of the Royal couple, we happily obliged and saw it as a perfect opportunity for a themed Friday.
When I saw these adorable ladies I had to snag a photo of them. Look how cute Simbala and Sarah’s floppy hats are!
These two ladies decided on head pieces and I think Amy and Jorie look gorgeous!
Yes, there are guys that work here too! Josh looks so happy showing off his favorite hat. Who wouldn’t be happy in front of racks and bins filled with beautiful clothes?!
Rifat’s hat has to be my favorite from the day, since it is floral and fabulous! Renee chose a feather headpiece to mix it up a little bit and it looks great.
Sara looks so precious today in her crocheted hat, she’s ready for a day of sunshine in the park. Kellen is always such a good sport and participates in our themed Fridays and she out-did herself with this gorgeous hat that I secretly want!
Happy Friday and thanks for stopping by! We hope you all have a good weekend and do something super fun for mom on Sunday!

GeneralLuLu*s Favorite Reads: Summer and the City

I don’t know about you gals, but I am obsessed with everything Sex and the City. Naturally, I am super excited about Candace Bushnell’s latest adventure, “Summer and the City”. This a perfect read for a day on the beach or just at the park on a beautiful spring day. The book is the sequel to the #1 New York Times Bestseller “The Carrie Diaries” and has been anticipated by Carrie Bradshaw fans for quite some time!
Candace Bushnell is the real Carrie Bradshaw since she is best known for writing a sex column that was turned into the book and movie series “Sex and the City”
Even Carrie can hardly wait to read this book!
What are some other suggestions for summer reads?

CelebrityThe Royal Wedding of the Century: Prince William and Princess Kate

On April 29th, 2011, William and Kate made it official by saying their “I Do’s” in front of billions of people around the world. Their fantastically elaborate wedding has been noted as the “Royal Wedding of the Century” and has been the trigger of happiness for the past few months. On this wonderful day, the Queen gave the Royal couple the titles of Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. I was utterly obsessed with all of the wedding coverage and I am pleased to share a synopsis with all of those who were not able to view at 3am Eastern time.
As Kate arrived next to him on the aisle, Prince William jokingly remarked to his father-in-law, “Just a small family affair!” With an estimated two billion people watching, this gathering was anything but “small.”
Something different these two did was changed their vows. Instead of saying “to obey”, Kate wanted to say “to love, comfort, honor, and keep.” I love that this adorable couple is putting a modern spin on tradition.
The Dress
Kate’s gown can be viewed as one of the best-kept fashion secrets of all time. She decided on Sarah Burton, artistic director of Alexander McQueen, and chose a dress with a v-neck and long lace sleeves. Prince William’s office stated, “the dress was made of ivory and white satin gazar. The skirt echoed an opening flower, with white satin gazar arches and a train measuring 2.7 meters (9 feet). The ivory satin bodice, which is padded at the hips and narrowed at the waist, draws on Victorian tradition, a hallmark of McQueen’s designs.” I can hardly wait to see all of the trends this dress will spark for weddings to come.
Kate also wore Queen Elizabeth’s wedding tiara, which was absolutely stunning!
The Carriage
Prince William and his bride left Westminster Abbey in the same open topped horse-drawn carriage used by the Prince and Princess of Wales on their wedding day in 1981.
The Ring
Prince William used the spectacular oval blue 18-carat sapphire and diamond ring when he first popped the question to Middleton. William said giving Kate the ring was his way of ensuring his late mother could be part of the occasion. In front of the world’s press, he said: “It is very special to me. It was my way to make sure my mother did not miss out on today and the excitement that we are going to spend the rest of our lives together.”
The Guests
As everyone gathered in front of Westminster Abbey, crowds went into a frenzy over the celebrities that were attending the service. Celebrity guests included Victoria Beckham and her husband David. Elton John also attended with partner, Bernie Taupin.
The Hats
The invitation asked the lady guests to wear a hat. People showed their adoration for the future Princess by emulating her favorite fashion staple. There were some notable pieces out in the audience, with such elaborate hats that were larger than some people’s heads! If you were not seen with a hat on, it was seen as disrespectful and therefore a fashion faux pas.
The Cake
The wedding cake was designed by Fiona Cairns and was accompanied by a chocolate biscuit cake that William had requested made from a royal family recipe. The garland on the cake matched the architectural garland in the room. The wedding cake was made up of 17 individual fruitcakes, with 12 forming the base. Yum!!
The Kiss
The couple left the abbey hand in hand and rode toward Buckingham Palace, where crowds gathered to watch their first kiss as a married couple. The new couple shared a kiss on the balcony, which was very brief! To respect the demands of the crowd, they locked lips again. Awww..
The Car
William and Kate surprised everyone by driving away from the palace in an Aston Martin with the numberplate JU5T WED. What a perfect ending to a perfect day!
Oh..and I had to include a picture of the adorable Queen Elizabeth..

A very royal congratulations to the happy couple from all of us here at Lulu*s!
What did you all think of the royal festivities?

GeneralA Day in the Life at LuLu*s: Floral Friday!

Floral Friday
At LuLu*s we like to have fun at work! What could a girl not love about being surrounded by super cute clothes, shoes and accessories all day? One thing we love doing around here is finding an excuse to dress up. This Friday it’s all about being floral and fabulous.
Here is our shoe extraordinaire, Nikki, and I snagging a fun and floral pic in front of the warehouse. And here is our cute and favorite manager, Kellen, sporting her floral flair.
This is our makeup artist, Sara, working her magic on one of our models, Olivia, in the design studio. I caught fellow blogger, Sienna, hanging out in the studio so I used it as a perfect photo op. Everyone loves themed Fridays around here!
Happy Friday and have a great weekend!

GeneralCute Things To Do For Mama On Her Big Day

Mother’s Day is May 8th so don’t forget to mark your calendar and plan something sweet for your mama!
I always appreciate new and interesting ideas on how to surprise my mom and grandma every year so I did a little research to discover fun things I thought I’d share!

1. The classic chef – make your mom breakfast, lunch, or dinner. I think my mom naturally expects this since I have done it every year, but I know she just loves seeing a breakfast tray near her door with some fresh flowers.

2. Do something mom likes to do.
If your mom loves crafting, then make something with her. If she loves hiking or kayaking, do something outside with her! This day is her day, so let her choose what you guys do for the day.

3. Make her something. Moms love homemade things so don’t waste your money! Put your heart into something special that your mom will love. I love decoupaging cards and my mom looks forward to them every year! Or you can get a collage of pictures of your mom from years ago to create a special scrapbook, or a movie montage!

4. Reminisce about special memories.
Everyone likes to remember the past, so get your old home movies out and enjoy a few good laughs. This is a great excuse to take out old photos and joke about your mom’s 80’s hairdo.

I hope these suggestions help make your Mother’s Day planning fun and interesting!

What are you going to do for your mom this year?
