About Annie

After growing up in the East Bay, with summers in the Poconos, a couple years in San Diego, then a couple more at the University of California, Davis, plus one magical summer studying abroad in Scotland, Annie is happy to have landed here at LuLu*s in lovely Chico, California. She is thrilled to be putting her English degree to use writing about everything that she thinks every girl will love. Her free time is all about her love for film, reading, writing, and decorating her new apartment.

It Girl: Miroslava Duma

Fashion | 08 April 2013

Don’t be fooled by her cute-as-a-button face and tiny stature, this street style superstar is a freelance writer and editor with a heavyweight resume that includes stints at Harper’s Bazaar Russia, OK, Tatler, and Glamour.

Style Tribe: Alongside several other street style darlings, Mira, as her friends call her, is a centerpiece of the fashion troupe often, and affectionately, referred to as “the Russian Mafia”.

Signature look: Statement-making necklaces and sky-high Louboutin platforms give this petite powerhouse a major boost.

Buro 24/7: You’ll want to learn Russian after you peek at her so-much-more-than-fashion site, which she describes as: “a source that keeps you posted on everything interesting that happens in the world—the kind of stuff you can talk about with people you don’t really know, after you’ve talked about the weather.” (Worry not, an English version is in the works!) (Style)

Relaxation Routine: “Some say yoga is the answer; as for me, I like to eat Toffifee caramel candies.” (Telegraph)

Looks We Love: Kick Off Your Heels!

Fashion | 04 April 2013

I’ve pulled enough barefoot-on-the-dance-floor moments in my lifetime to truly appreciate a great pair of sparkling sandals. Those 6″ stilettos look great in a picture, but after about five minutes, my dogs are a-barkin’! So I say, away with the pain! Let’s follow in the flip-flop’d footsteps of starlets like Uma Thurman and Elizabeth Olsen, who prove that flat is fabulous!

Bejeweled sandals are totally in right now, and our selection here at LuLu*s is fancier than ever. Short date? Problem solved. And unlike those black-tie-only evening gowns and poof-tastic bridesmaid dresses, this special occasion staple dresses down in a snap. Just add denim, and you really can wear them again and again and again…

Trend Alert: J'Adore D'Orsay

Fashion | 26 March 2013

As sexy as a bikini for your feet, these two-piece pumps and flats are equal parts classic and on-trend. This style has been around since the turn of the 19th century, but that doesn’t mean this arch-bearing archetype can’t have a major moment in the modern world. So air out those arches and make room for some delightful d’Orsay shoes!

Elizabeth Olsen for Bullett Magazine

Celebrity | 19 March 2013

In a pale pink wig, rocking delectable designer confections (that Balmain dress! *swoon*), among a paler than pastel backdrop, indie darling Elizabeth Olsen is straight out of a dream world. As if I didn’t already adore her enough, the interview that accompanies this ethereal photo shoot is chock full of little gems like this: “If I were an older man and I saw a girl my age, who maybe didn’t know herself that well, I would find her so unappealing… But when I see a woman in her 40s and up, I think, God, you know a lot. One day, I’ll get to be desired like you.

DIY: Rihanna's Pearly Chanel Sunglasses

DIY | 13 March 2013

Shine bright like a diamond in these Rihanna-inspired sunnies, and save yourself the Chanel price tag with supplies you can score for under $10 at your local craft store.

All you need are a cute pair of circular sunglasses, a string of (faux) pearls, and a little jewelry glue (or cheat with a glue gun; we won’t tell!).

Helpful tip: when you trim your string of pearls to fit your frames, skip the knot and dab a dot of glue on the end instead. We’ve all seen what happens when pearls hit the floor….

xoxo
