Fall Trend: Pretty in Purple

Fashion | 11 August 2010

I came across these gorgeous photos from Australia’s Marie Claire editorial “Purple Reign.” Taken during the Jacaranda Festival in Grafton, New South Wales, these pictures capture the beauty of lilac blossoms and translate them into gorgeous fall looks.

So break out those amethyst eye shadows, plum satin dresses and violet accessories to celebrate the color known for its richness and regal nature!

Rising Star: Mary Elizabeth Winstead

Celebrity | 06 August 2010

With her neon hair and hot hipster look in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, audiences are taking notice of fresh-faced, American actress, Mary Elizabeth Winstead!

Winstead has been dubbed a “scream queen,” due to her roles in many a horror flick, from The Ring Two and Final Destination 3 to my personal favorite: Quentin Tarantino’s Death Proof. With Scott Pilgrim‘s release on Aug 13th, Winstead is busy interviewing and making her talent known.

Based on the graphic novel by Bryan Lee O’Malley and starring Michael Cera, the film follows the “Precious Little Life” of rocker and all-around stud, Scott Pilgrim (Cera), whose world is turned on its head by a mysterious girl named Ramona V. Flowers (Winstead).

But if they intend to seriously date, he must defeat her seven evil ex boyfriends – yes seven. That’s where the fun (and pain) begins. But hey, a girl who can pull off this many shades of Manic Panic is definitely worth fighting for.

Fall Beauty: Have Fun with Plum!

Beauty | 04 August 2010

Even though it’s still August (and hot!), I’m already excited for the arrival of fall and the makeup trends to follow. This year, I’m really inspired by the use of deep purples and plums on the eyes, lips and nails. Above is the Fall 2010 French Coquette Color Collection by Aaron De May. The deep smoky eye and short, bobbed hair really draws from the 1920′s flapper look, which I love! Below is a look from Sephora’s Fall 2010 Beauty Report. That sultry lipstick is absolutely amazing, and the purple nail polish is quite the modern take on your classic red!

What do you think? Are you pumped for plums this fall?

Have a Very Vintage Fall

Fashion | 03 August 2010

Keeping warm when the days get chilly doesn’t mean skipping out on cute style. With the right pair of mittens, that perfect scarf, a chic little hat and a gorgeous coat, you’ll be toasty warm and perfectly trendy, no baggy, hooded sweatshirts required.

I don’t know if it’s because the new season of Mad Men just started, but I’m really inspired by retro-styles from the 50′s and 60′s for this fall and winter. Here are a few of photos from My Vintage Vogue that really sparked my interest.

With flattering, double-breasted coats, cute furry contrasts (or faux fur), and an array of cozy accessories, these gals know how to show up Jack Frost in style!

If you’re inspired by these looks, take a peek at some of my favorite, retro-style coats from Lulu*s! Featured below is the Sherlock Trench Coat, the Fonda Coat, the Lennon Coat, and the gorgeous Quinn Coat

Girl of the Golden West

Fashion | 30 July 2010

They say you can take the girl out of the country, but you can’t take the country out of the girl, and they’re darn-tootin’ right!

Even with my affinity for red lipstick and prim pencil skirts, those California country roots start to show whenever I hear a banjo play or spy some hot leather jacket with fringe trim at a Western-supply store.

This summer and fall, get back to rugged independence, boho-prints, cow girl boots, Southwestern spice, floor-sweeping prairie dresses, free-falling feathers, dangling fringe accents, sunny skies, an open road and an adventurous heart.

All photos found via Souvenirs photo blog under “Into the Wild West I,” featuring photography from Harper Smith. Get your Western-style kicks here at Lulus*s with a couple of my favorites: the Portola Sweater Wrap, the Santa Fe Fringe Earrings, and the Honky Tonk Handbag!
