FashionWine Tasting in the Craft Corner Dress!

A couple of weekends ago, I had my very first wine tasting experience in the gorgeous green hills of Napa Valley. It was my friend’s bachelorette extravaganza, so just us girls treated ourselves to a little sun, champagne, wine and fine cheeses! Here we are (pictured above) in front of the beautiful Domaine Carneros Winery for a little 11 a.m sparkling wine tasting.

I took the new Craft Corner Dress along for the trip (above). I just love the fun color-blocking on this dress and its flattering fit. It put me in just the right mood for the sunny weekend and fun times ahead. Also, I can’t tell you how many compliments I got from complete strangers, who all wanted to know where I got it. Lulus.com of course! :)

NewsLadies, Welcome to Fight Club

“The first rule of Fight Club is, one never mentions Fight Club. No corsets, no hat pins and no crying.”

If you’re a fan of Jane Austen’s novels like me, then you’re going to go crazy over this mock trailer for “Jane Austen’s Fight Club.”

Going viral on the internet, this hilarious spoof is modeled, almost clip for clip, after the original Fight Club trailer. This time, however, Tyler Durden and the boys are replaced by Lizzy Bennet and her prim, 19th century comrades who get down and dirty on the well-manicured lawns outside their manor houses.

Now, I only wish it was going to be made into a real movie…

NewsNew from Jeffrey Campbell!

Get ready for envious stares, double takes and, of course, compliments. The much anticipated Lita from Jeffrey Campbell has finally arrived at Lulus.com! This hot leather lace-up bootie comes in a rich shade of mustard yellow with sweet caramel shading (pictured below). Dream up all sorts of ways to sport this shoe around town, but don’t dream too long – this baby is going fast.

Check out new fall styles “On The Run” in Jeffrey Campbell’s very first music video below!

InterviewsMeet Vintage Model: Ashley Rogers!

With her fresh face and great outlook, Lulu*s vintage model Ashley Rogers was a treat to chat up on modeling gigs, style and life in general. Read up, and check out our Vintage section to see Ashley rockin’ some hot, retro-inspired looks!

1. How did you get into modeling?
I began modeling in Texas when I was pretty young. My sister was a make up artist and worked with the agencies there, so I was able to tag along and eventually booked work myself.

2. What are the challenges and perks of modeling?
The one challenge that I find is sheer concentration. It becomes difficult over a long period of time to do something as simple as conveying a feeling in your face.  My favorite perk is working with creative and talented people. I thrive on being around like-minded individuals, and the industry is bustling with them.

3. Describe your typical weekday – is life pretty consistent or unpredictable?
Right now, I’m in between school and work, so it can be unpredictable at times.  I have gotten myself into a habit of writing to do lists every day to maintain a sense of normalcy.  It helps.

4. How long do you take to get out the door in the morning?
30 minutes for my usual routine. I remember being younger and spending up to two hours to get ready. Imagine what I could do with all of that extra time now!  =)

5. Are you a health nut, junk food junkie or something in-between?
I’m fairly healthy for the most part, but I don’t deny myself anything either. I was a vegetarian for 10 years up until the fall of last year, and it was simply because I began craving meat that I started eating it again.  I’m a firm believer that the body will tell you what it needs.

6. Do you have a dream modeling gig?
I would love to be one of Stella McCartney’s girls. They always look so innocently polished.

7. Describe your style in terms of dress and aesthetic.
My sense of style is very eclectic.  I tend to go a little vintage throwback but always with a very modern twist. I welcome the jeans and t-shirt days too.

8. Must have item for the summer?
Multiple pairs of sunnies (I’m constantly misplacing mine), at least two vividly patterned swimsuits, and that one floor sweeping dress that makes you feel carefree and sexy all at once. I like the hippie-style gunne sax versions right now

GeneralWhat’s Your Signature Scent?

Perfume is a funny thing. While it’s extremely personal (umm…it’s what you smell like), it’s also very public (everyone else can smell it too).

Choosing a scent to make your own is almost like a journey of self discovery. Am I a sugary vanilla sweetie or a sultry smoky vixen? Do I bathe in the stuff or just put a tiny dollop behind each ear?

I love perfume, considering it doesn’t reek or burn my nostrils. When tastefully applied, it can make you feel more glamorous, put togther and even make memories. Certain perfumes will always remind me of a specific time in my life. Getting ready to go to the 8th grade dance, my college dorm experience, that summer vacation by the beach…a scent can bring you back in an instant.

So here’s a couple of the Lulu*s staff favorites, and I must say, we smell pretty darn good.

 The Glamorous

The timeless Coco Chanel is a staple of the ever posh Heather (photo assistant), while the ruby red Absolutely Irresistible by Givenchy is a favorite often worn by yours truly. I love to get the roll-on tube because it’s more affordable, and you can just keep it in your purse. :)

The Exotic

A great collection of scents by Tokyo Milk keeps Lulu*s model, Laura, smelling lovely during photo shoots. Kellen (Web Operations Manager) loves her Sensi perfume from Giorgio Armani. A sensual scent with exotic floral tones, this would be perfect for an evening out.

 The Fresh and Floral

I’ve only heard great things about the popular Flowerbomb by Viktor & Rolf, a scent Renee (returns Dept) adores. Dolce & Gabbana’s Light Blue is described as being cheerful, crisp and summery, which is perfect for Shandi (customer service) on her typical Mon-Fri work week.

The Sporty

Jonathan (inventory) keeps on his feet with Allure Homme Sport by Chanel, while Brittani (sample girl) loves her Abercrombie & Fitch 8 and even steals some of her boyfriend’s Abercrombie & Fitch Fierce from time to time.

The Naturalist

For those who prefer an earthier, natural scent, take a hint from Matt (inventory) and use a little Patchouli essence. I also love how both Sienna (copy writer) and Marty (photographer) use a little citrus peel zest to keep things light and fresh.

So what’s your signature scent? What do you think it says about you?
