BeautyHair How-To: Easy Glam Waves!

In addition to her stunning D&G dress that had me green with envy, Scarlett Johansson was rockin’ some glamorous, full body waves at the 2010 MTV Movie Awards.
I love this look. It’s classic, it’s universally flattering, and it always seems to pair so well with easy breezy sundresses when the weather gets warmer.
I’m not so much of a pro when it comes to handling a curling iron, but this look doesn’t need to be perfect. The beauty of it lies in its loose and carefree nature.
That being said: there is some technique involved. That’s where the lovely Tiffany of MakeUpTiffany comes in handy! One of my fav YouTube beauty gals, Tiffany has an awesome Curls with Volume tutorial that you MUST watch!

Tiffany advises using a 1.5″ curling iron and a heat protectant spray of your choice. Take your time and make sure to heat the whole strand of hair evenly. Once done, gently shake out the curls and put on that glamorous strapless dress. Yowza! Now you’re ready to rock!

FashionTrend to Try: Mixed Prints

If you’re ready to mix things up this summer, why not try mixing your prints? Stars like Kristen Stewart rock this bold look with a punch of colors. Here she is (pictured left) in a Proenza Schouler Spring 2010 ensemble.

I’m very much a matchy matchy gal and was a little wary of trying out the trend myself. However, runway looks, celebrity fashions and recent street styles have really inspired me to give it a try.

Some general tips:
*Pair a large bold print with a smaller, subtle print.
*Mix up the textures of fabric.
*Stay within the same general, color palette.
*Also, a solid color belt can break up the look and keep it from overwhelming the eyes.
Pictured above, actress Leighton Meester mixes her preppy prints as Blair on the set of Gossip Girl. I love the color palette here, but I could do without the neck tie. Rachel Bilson and Rihanna stick with neutral blacks, greys and whites. My favorite is Rachel Bilson’s look, hands down.

Combining stripes and florals is also quite common. Our popular Mix Master Dress in Orange (pictured left) already does it for you! I love how the orange stripes really tie in with the bright orange flowers. Lulu*s stylist, Cara, took a fashion forward step by pairing the new Day at the Circus Top with the bright Pretty as a Poppy Skirt (pictured right). The look is rather striking, but it works!

So, what do you think? Are you inspired to mix up those prints? :)

MusicBrothers: New Album from The Black Keys

May 18th was the official release date for Brothers, the newest album to come from The Black Keys! This is the sixth album from the popular blues-rock duo, and it did not disappoint. My boyfriend and I listened to it in its entirety about three times on a weekend road trip. Now, I pretty much have “Everlasting Light” on repeat whenever I’m working at the computer.

Both Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney make an appearance in the video for “Tighten Up,” the album’s hit single. It’s actually really funny, but it does have a bit of stage blood and mock fighting if you’re squeamish about that stuff.

NewsElisabeth Moss in “Get Him to the Greek!”

Mad Men star Elisabeth Moss, looked stunning at the L.A. premiere of her new film Get Him to the Greek. Here she is with Mad Men co-stars John Slattery and John Hamm, with girlfriend Jennifer Westfeldt.

Moss will be playing the role of Daphne Binks, graduating med student and girlfriend to co-star Jonah Hill. I love Moss in Mad Men and can’t wait to see her on the big screen! Make a date to see Get Him to the Greek which releases this Friday, June 4th!
