Different Strokes with Artist Jacqui Oakley

Art | 06 September 2012

This gorgeous rendering of Dior Couture opened the door for me unto the prolific workings of Canadian illustrator Jacqui Oakley. Published in a long list of books and magazines, Jacqui’s work pairs inky brushstrokes with explosive color combos, and sensual contours.

Her website is also one of the most fun I’ve seen, with dozens of colorful thumbnails that reveal full shots of the work and plenty of in-process photos for some serious behind-the-scenes gratification.

And this week’s model pick of the week goes to . . . the Tripp NYC Black Rock Studded Black Skinny Jeans! Kennedy loves these extra stud-ly jeans for their totally unique design, which, she says, she’s never seen before. All in all her verdict is that these skinnies are RAD!!!

Eye Brightening Tutorial

Beauty | 22 August 2012

If your eyes ever need that extra perk, try this simple how-to. It’s perfect for any eye color, and lets you showcase the brighter side of your lipstick collection as well!

How to Brighten Eyes in 4 Easy Steps:

1. Start by applying Pixi Eye Bright Primer over entire lid, followed by a dab of neutral shimmer under the eye (we used the Pixi Eye Bright Kit No.2). Next we applied Milani Powder Eye Shadow in French Vanilla over the entire lid.

2. Line the upper lid with a white cream shadow or liner like Milani Shadow Eyez in Winter White, making sure you travel all the way to the inner corner of the eye. Start from the inner corner and line the under lid as well.

3. Just in the outer crease of the lid add a little depth with a neutral eye shadow like Urban Decay’s Toasted, and blend.

4. Highlight your brow with a white powdered eye shadow like Milani’s White Lie or Ka’oir Milky Way Light Beige Eye Shadow. Finish with a thin black cat-eye (upper lid only) and black mascara top and bottom!

Kaleidoscopic Eden: Illustration by Artist Bozka

Art | 14 August 2012

Living and working in Warsaw, Poland, artist Bozka (short for Bozena Rydlewska) uses a masterful technique that combines both digital drawing and handmade collage elements to illustrate beautiful, botanically based imagery. Bold colors play out into even bolder scenes, capturing a kaleidoscopic Eden, and a gathering place for the super-natural world.

Film to Fashion: Clueless

Fashion | 10 August 2012

Whether they’ve got their driver’s permit or not, the wheels of fashion will keep turning, and it’s no surprise that ’90s styles have been appearing both on and off the runways. Turning sweet seventeen this year, our favorite fashionable film,
Clueless, is forever our inspiration with its ultra-girlyness, and cute, preppy-vibe. From matching tweeds to be-dazzled sweaters, we think Cher and Dionne would have their hands all over this style board!
