MusicListen Up! She & Him Volume 3

She & Him  = Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward

she & him

Well aren’t we excited! After months of anticipation, our favorite lounge/folk duo, She & Him, releases their latest album entitled simply, “Volume 3″. Having tempted us with the single “Never Wanted Your Love” earlier this year, we found ourselves all wrapped up in the ripening sound of this airy, upbeat group. Fronted by our favorite “New Girl”, Zooey Deschanel, the album makes good on the retro, sixties sound we’ve come to know and cherish from She & Him, and you can almost imagine Zooey sitting along a sunny fence singing happily like a little bird.

I mean, how can you not melt a little over lyrics like “I know a girl from a lonely street, cold as ice cream but still as sweet” on the track Sunday Girl that dishes up a full verse in Zooey’s breathy French? If you’re a fan of dreamy, seventies-esque keyboard chords, then you’re going to love the track “Somebody Sweet to Talk To”, and the super catchy lyrics of “Together” are soon to be your next summer singalong.

Fans can catch She & Him on their short summer 2013 tour, or you can skip the crowds and catch this album. Released today!

ArtPattern and Peach Fuzz: French Illustrator Elodie

Our favorite illustrators? The ones who are obsessed with fashion like French illustrator Elodie Nadreau!

Known simply as Elodie, this “Parisienne” has rolled her love for fashion and talent for digitally-embellished drawings into one perfect little package of color, texture, and flirtatious line-work. Elodie’s work emits a soft and sensual ambiance with subtle layers of pattern often weaving in and out of the main subject. Favoring female portraiture Elodie is inspired by what’s happening on the runways and magazines, and I love how she imparts a stippled peach-fuzz effect over much of her work, giving the pieces a warm, almost buzzing quality.

MusicThe Great Gatsby Soundtrack and Trailer

great gatsby soundtrack

It’s not enough that Baz Luhrmann (Romeo + Juliet, Moulin Rouge) is directing the savvy new film version of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby, but none other than Jay-Z has been appointed as the executive producer for the roller-coaster-ride soundtrack that is just beginning to leak to all of us starry-eyed fans. In fact he’s pieced together such a dazzling array of artists, impressive covers, and original songs we’ll excuse Jazzy for giving himself the opening track (and his wife the second).

Nepotism aside, the stunning Lana Del Rey released the first music video of the bunch today, and Florence + The Machine’s “Over the Love” will you hit you  harder than Gatsby’s grill.

The Great Gatsby Soundtrack

BeautyDIY Eye Gloss – Two Methods!

DIY Eye Gloss

Eye gloss (also known as liquid eye shadow) was all over the fall 2013 runways, yet some of the brands used like MAC are not even released yet! Before you go out and buy that expensive new eye gloss, try making it home with this easy tutorial. After researching methods that used everything from glycerin to petroleum jelly, we narrowed it down to the two easiest and least expensive methods that use materials you probably already have lying around. You can literally use any eye shadow or body glitter you have – especially a broken palette! – just crush it up and mix.

Materials Used: Milani Powder Eye Shadow in Gold Dust, Baby Oil Gel, Max Clear Lip Gloss.

Baby Oil Gel Method

Pros:

- You can use regular baby oil for a subtle, sheer look, or kick it up a notch with baby oil gel. The gel creates a slightly thicker application that is still thinner than the lip gloss method.

-  Baby oil is safe enough for a baby and easy on your skin. It’s also widely available.

-  Resists creasing.

-  Inexpensive.

Cons:

- Coverage is more subtle than the lip gloss method.

Lip Gloss Method:

Pros:

- Thicker, dramatic, editorial-worthy coverage.

-  Inexpensive.

Cons:

- Tends to be very sticky.

- Can be difficult to remove.

- Creasing.

Overall, we found baby oil gel to be the best mixing medium, but feel free to experiment and tell us your favorite in the comments below!
