We partnered up to give you Lilliana’s picks of summer’s hottest pieces under $100. With gorgeous maxis, pretty prints, and bright accessories, this curated collection is a one-stop-shop for savings on summer’s key pieces!
I caught up with Lilliana to chat about how she got started, why she loves Lulus, and what trends she is excited for this summer!
Tell us about how you got started in the fashion world. I started my career at W Magazine and quickly discovered it was not the right place for me, but my time there was the inspiration for The CheapChica’s Guide to Style. After working on a magazine where I could barely afford one thing in any given issue, I wanted to curate a space where women could find the latest trends, fashion advice and lust-worthy goods that they could actually buy!
How did you get your start as a style expert on TV? When I started, style experts on TV were either editors or celebrity stylists and while I admired their expertise, I felt that the voice of real women with real budgets and real bodies was being left out of that conversation. Luckily, the amazing team at The Nate Berkus Show agreed with me and they gave me a chance to spread the CheapChica gospel on national TV! It really struck a chord with viewers and since then I’ve been on TODAY, E! News, Access Hollywood, Katie and just finished shooting a segment with Khloe Kardashian for The Kris Jenner Show!
What is your favorite site or TV show for fashion related info? I love WhoWhatWear.com. They do an amazing job of covering industry trends along with celebrity fashion…and I’m a huge Joan Rivers fan so I don’t miss an episode of Fashion Police on E!
Are you an avid blog reader? If so, what are some of your favorite bloggers? I spend way too much time online, but it’s part of my job description so I look at it as “research”! Some of my favorite sites are fashion news blogs like Fashionista, The Cut and Refinery 29; personal style blogs like Atlantic-Pacific, Sincerely Jules and Late Afternoon; and I’m a closeted beauty junkie so Into The Gloss is a daily read!
What do you love about Lulus? What don’t I love?! I love the selection, the lookbooks that make me want to buy everything in them and most of all that Lulus makes fashion accessible to everyone, no matter what their style or budget!
What is your number one tip for saving money and looking great? Shop smart! That means shop for great pieces that you can remix a million different ways so that your clothes can go the distance. And if you love what you buy, you’ll love to wear it even on the 10th time!
If you could travel back to a past fashion era, which decade would you chose and why? The 70’s without question. I’d get to indulge my inner hippie at the start of the decade and then go all out glam for the Studio 54 days that followed!
