The Fairy Face Palette by PixiGlow

Beauty | 22 May 2012

by

For the young or young at heart, the Fairy Face Palette by PixiGlow is as useful as it is playful. Besides channeling your inner Tinkerbell, the set includes a variety of eye shadows, blush, and lip color “. . . inspired by budding roses, berry nectars and dew at dawn.” Sounds good to me!

The eye shadows are definitely my favorite, offering a touch of rosy shimmer that completely avoids the puffy, red-eye look some pink shadows can give you. There are also enough shades to create the ever-popular smoky eye look, and the set includes a mirror large enough to see your entire face. Five shades of lip cream are smooth and glossy, adding a touch of color to brighten the lip, and the overall fold-out case is so whimsical I’m rather charmed by it all. This palette would be a great take-along for any girl who likes a sweet minimal look, and is totally gift-worthy.

LuLu*s How To: Removing Glitter Nail Polish

Beauty | 21 May 2012

by

If you’ve ever used a textured, glittery nail polish, it can be a nightmare to remove, especially if you love changing up your polish as often as I do. Now you don’t have to waste any more time scrubbing and scraping that glitter off, because we’ve found a great way to get the polish off without all the hassle!
Materials needed:
  • Cotton balls/strips
  • Acetone
  • Aluminum foil
Instructions:
*I recommend doing one hand at a time so that there’s no mess and you’re able to secure the foil on each finger.
  1. Take pieces of the cotton balls/strips, dab some acetone on them and place on the nail.
  2. Cut the foil into strips large enough to fit around your finger tips.
  3. Wrap the foil around the nail and the cotton.
  4. Wait 5-10 minutes and the glitter polish will slide right off!
Voila! Now you have a clean canvas to work on and you can change up your polish as often as you’d like!

Finally, a collection of nail lacquers for the ultimate party girl!

Brought to you by the beloved China Glaze, the Electropop collection riffs on the club and dance scene with awesome colors like Aquadelic, Sweet Hook, and Wicked Style. These brights are more than all right, they’re fantastic, and you can pretty much go crazy with all the possible combinations. My personal favorite? It’s gotta be Gaga for Green

Trend to Try: Orange Lips!

Beauty | 03 May 2012

by

If you’ve ever wondered about orange lip colors (or maybe you’re already in love) we’ve tested out four orange-hues from some of our favorite cosmetic companies.
1. Milani Color Perfect Lipstick in Mango Mambo: A coral-red meets red-orange lip color that is perfect if you’re trying orange hues for the first time, or if you have ANY coral-red hanging in your closet.
2. Milani Color Perfect Lipstick in Mandarina: Classic orange with a hint of red, this color will fit perfectly in your lipstick collection and pairs well with the ongoing tropical prints trend.
3. Urban Decay Super-Saturated High Gloss Lip Color in Punch Drunk: Creamy and by far the orange-iest of the looks we tried, this color is a high-powered, dramatic, and very urban indeed.
4. Pixi Lip Blush in Energy: A long-lasting lip stain that is sort of peachy and has a delicate shimmer. This color is great for you minimalists out there, and pairs well with pastels.

Smoky Eye Tutorial with Sigma Beauty

Beauty | 26 April 2012

by

If there is one look you ought to know how to do, it’s a perfect smoky eye. This quintessential look crosses all boundaries between casual and dressy, and will work with absolutely ANY color of clothing. The smoky eye is easy to master, you just need a nice neutral eye shadow palette, and some good brushes. I mean, if you want an editorial-quality look, you’ve got to start with good brushes, right?

This tutorial features products by Sigma Beauty which, if you haven’t heard, carry an amazing line of professional and everyday cosmetic brushes. Our photo studio is currently using a wide variety of brushes by Sigma, which makes our job just that much easier.
Products Used in this Tutorial

a. Make Me Classy Professional Brush Kit with Two-Sided Brush Container
b. Performance Eyes Kit
c. Sigma Beauty Eye Shadow Palette in Bare; we used the four center shades in order to create a robust look with plenty of depth.

1. Start with a clean face and apply foundation primer and foundation of your choice with Sigma’s Foundation Brush F60.

2. We used Sigma’s Eye Shading Brush E55 with the light golden shade Command over the full lid.

3. Then we stepped up to the next darkest shade, Act, and swept a small amount across the bottom half of the lid with Precision Tapered Brush P86 in order to create depth.

4. We started the smoky effect using the Medium Angled Brush E70, concentrating the light charcoal grey shade Snoop on the outer half of lid, and following the natural crease of the eye.

The fourth and final shade Hitch (a deep brown shade) is applied to the very outside corner using the Shader Crease Brush E47.

*To transform from a day to evening look, add a little extra Hitch.*

5. Finally we added a black liner to define the lash line followed by a touch of mascara and a swipe of dusty rose blush. Our new favorite red lipstick; Milani Color Perfect Lipstick in Red Label adds the final pop!
