Site to See: Everyone's Mixtape

Music | 19 September 2012

by

Remember staying up late nights working on meticulously crafted mixtapes for you friends? No? Don’t worry, then, because today’s Site to See merges the good old days with 21st century technology to create Everyone’s Mixtape.

Creator Richard Mai’s vision supersedes today’s tendency to “put it on shuffle” and revisits the glory days when every song had to perfectly transition into the next, and the entire tape took on some sort of theme.

How does it work? Well, you can listen to other people’s mixtapes, OR you can sign in a create your own! When you’re done creating the ultimate mix, you can grab your url and share it with your besties!

I first discovered Nicki Bluhm and the Gramblers on Youtube. A friend of mine, who knew how much I loved Hall and Oates, sent me the band’s cover of “I Can’t Go for That”. Let’s just say they had me at the kazoo solo (watch the video below, you’ll know what I mean).

Nicki just released her solo album Driftwood last moth, and is on tour now! Check out her website for more goodness!

The Idler Wheel . . . Fiona Apple's First Album in Seven Years!

Music | 19 June 2012

by

It’s been a while since we last heard our beloved Fiona Apple out with a new album (seven years in fact) but today marks the day! For all of you Apple fans, it’s time to run out and grab the epically titled, The Idler Wheel Is Wiser Than the Driver of the Screw and Whipping Cords Will Serve You More Than Ropes Will Ever Do, or The Idler Wheel . . . for short.

When you listen to her newest single Every Single Night it only takes a second to realize that this fruitful beauty hasn’t lost a thing, especially not her affinity for a quirky-yet-sensual music video complete with octopus hat!

Album of the Summer: About A Feeling by Summer Heart

Music | 11 May 2012

Let’s kick off the summer right with a brand new Indie album by Swedish musician, David Alexander, a.k.a. Summer Heart. This dreamy collection of eight songs has a soft lounge-y vibe with hints of Bossa Nova and an instrumental flow that fares well when looped on “repeat”. If you’re kicking it by the pool, or working your butt off at a summer job, this is the album to get you through and beyond.
