Alexa Chung's 24 Hour Catwalk Series Premiere

News | 10 January 2012

by

So, did you hear that Alexa Chung has a new show? And this time it’s all about fashion?? Yes!!!! 24 Hour Catwalk premieres tonight (Tuesday, January 10th @ 10/9c), and let me just tell you why my DVR is set to record.

Yeah, it’s kind of another Project Runway (which just premiered an “All-Star” season), but trade Heidi for Alexa, and trade Michael Kors & Co for designer Cynthia Rowley, fashion editor Derek Blasberg (New York Times best-selling author, Editor at Large for US Harper’s Bazaar, and Senior Editor of V, and VMan) and publicist James LaForce, (a “highly-regarded media and communications consultant”). Alright, I’m on board.

Now, instead of a whole cast and a whole season, we get four new designers per episode (slashed to two after a “first cut” elimination challenge), who have 24 hours (a-ha!) to complete a full runway collection. The prize: $10,000. Not bad. Also, the designers are provided with a “talented and opinionated” sewing team to help them make it to the finish line. Cue the drama. Add in some mystery trunks, and we’ve got a healthy blend of everything I love to see in my reality TV queue.

Oh, sneak peek? Don’t mind if I do…

Afraid you’re going to miss it? Worry not! You can watch the first full episode here. And for future reference, watch Tuesdays at 10/9c on Lifetime. Now here’s hoping Alexa makes a ton of wardrobe changes…

Site to See: Rookie Magazine by Tavi!

News | 06 October 2011

by

Tavi welcomes you to her new magazine, Rookie.

If you love Tavi Gevinson (doesn’t everyone) then has she got a new treat for you! Tavi debuted her new online magazine last month, so it’s your perfect chance to go check out the quirky articles she and her writers have compiled so far.

The mission is simple: “Rookie is a website for teenage girls. With monthly-themed content, we update three times a day, five days a week, and are happy to offer you millions of bad puns.”

But let me tell you, just like this all-star sophomore’s beloved blog, Style Rookie, she easily wins the hearts and readership of a much broader crowd than just teenage girls. The theme for October is “Secrets” following the appropriately themed September issue, “Beginnings.” It’s worth a look . . . seriously.

1-2-3-4, Paris Declares a Post-it War!

News | 13 September 2011

by

I’m staring at a colorful block of Post-its right this very moment, wondering,”Why didn’t I think of that?”

You may not have heard on the news, but there is a war raging in Paris, and it’s spreading across Europe as we speak. The weapon of choice: Post-it notes, with a hearty helping of serious creativity.

It all began with video game developer Ubisoft, then the battle quickly caught on between neighboring office buildings, and the rest is history.

Most of the subjects of choice revolve around video games (starting with Mario and friends) and cartoons, though a few brave souls have expanded the selection of characters to include some unexpected faces. All you fashionistas out there ought to appreciate this particular homage to designers Jean Paul Gaultier, Karl Lagerfeld, and Sonia Rykiel (below).

Other popular characters: Pac-Man, Space Invaders, Tetris, and my personal favorite, Angry Birds.

Though, the pièce de résistance has to be this multi-story masterpiece:

There are loads more pictures to see online, so check out Post-It War (updated daily!), though I had the best luck sifting through the facebook page.

So now, I’m looking out the giant windows here at LuLu*s, and I’m considering my own, harmless little declaration of war…
