When you don’t dress like everybody else, you don’t have to think like everybody else.” – Iris Apfel

Move over Carrie Bradshaw! Make way for Iris Apfel, 90-year-old fashion icon and master accessorizer!
The always stylish Iris Apfel has gained some momentum in the past century as an unlikely celebrity whose fame has been constructed almost entirely around her unique look.
Round oversized glasses. Bright red lipstick. Bangles of every color and substance covering each of her arms. This is fashion done right!
Before her fame, Apfel and her husband, Carl, started a textile firm, Old World Weavers, whose reproductions of antique fabrics for drapes, curtains, and furniture have graced the stately homes of clients like Estée Lauder and even the White House! Because of this, Apfel has travelled the world and has since gathered many treasures in her closet.
In 2005, that treasure trove was opened up to the world when the Metropolitan Museum of New York staged an exhibition called “Rara Avis: (Rare Bird): The Irreverent Iris Apfel”. Displaying more than 80 of her fabulous ensembles and accessories, Apfel was rocket launched into fame and spawned a myriad of projects, including her jewelry collections with HSN and Yoox.com, a makeup line with MAC Cosmetics, and even a documentary in the works!
Her wonderfully bold style has even made it into the pages of Vogue and The New York Times, as well as a cult favorite of fashion bloggers and admirers of all ages!
I really hope I’m as cool as Iris Apfel at 90!
