DIYSelf-Care: 3 Easy Ways to Get Started!

self-care Sunday

Self-care is defined as anything you do to take care of your mind and body to look and feel your best, and that’s what we’re all about! There has been so much info out there lately (here’s a quick rundown of the basics, if you need it), so we’re sharing a few fun and easy ways to be perfectly centered and pampered!

Fill Your Home With Plants: We love the aesthetic of a home filled with plants, and the ritual of caring for a plant is good for the soul too! We chose three easy to own plants that can actually clean the air in your home as well! Some of our faves are the spider plant, it’s one of the most low-maintenance houseplants, it loves indirect sunlight, and is known to remove toxins. The snake plant is a trendy, hard to kill option as well, and it prefers drier conditions and removes many common pollutants. And of course aloe vera! In addition to it’s air cleansing abilities, its leaves also hold a fluid that has anti-inflammatory, wound-healing properties! We recommend keeping it in the kitchen to soothe burns!

Do a DIY Face Mask: Self-care is all about rituals, and there is something so rewarding about a Sunday face mask that makes us feel confident and ready to take on the week! There are plenty of easy, inexpensive DIY masks out there depending on your skin’s needs, so feel free to get creative and try out new combinations until you find what works for you! This article from Marie Claire has a lot of easy, simple recipes – we would pick a gentle organic banana mask. All you need is one-half of a banana mashed into a bowl, mix in a tablespoon of orange juice and a tablespoon of honey. Apply to your face and neck, and let it sit for 15 minutes. Rinse off for glowing, soothed skin and a fresh attitude to take on the week ahead.

Aromatherapy: Scent has such an impact on our mood, and aromatherapy triggers the relaxation response necessary for self-care. Little things like a lavender spray on your pillow can make you instantly calmer after a stressful day, or try using a diffuser when you get home to instantly set the mood for a relaxed night. Experiment with different essential oils and mix and match to find your perfectly you, zen blend. This article breaks down the essential oil essentials!
