tips for working out and finding fitness motivation when it is cold outside

As the weather turns cooler, it’s easy to convince yourself you’ll catch up at the gym “tomorrow” (read: maybe this weekend, but probably not). Between the gloomy weather and all the treats surrounding the holidays, it’s not unusual to put on a few pounds as the temps drop. If you’re feeling discouraged by your dwindling motivation, check out our list of recommendations for staying in shape when it’s cold outside!

Namaste Inside: If there’s anything that’ll get you pumped to work out, we bet it’s the idea of a toasty room! Taking a hot yoga class is a great way to improve your circulation and muscle flexibility, so it’s perfect for anyone trying to hop on the yoga train! Grab a cute yoga mat and a water bottle and get sweaty!  However, make sure you spend 5-10 minutes post-class and let your internal temp regulate before stepping out in the freezing weather again! Going from one extreme temperature to another can constrict your muscles and mess with your immune system, so take caution afterward to avoid injury. We don’t know about you, but we’ll be spending our cool-down time taking a glowy post yoga selfie for our Insta story because if no one knows you did yoga, did you even do yoga?!

Home Body: If you’re anything like us, leaving the comfort of your cozy, fall candle scented palace when the skies are grey isn’t going to happen. Luckily, there’s plenty of resources online for at-home workouts! Here in the Lulus HQ, we love Yoga with Adriene and Body Positive Yoga for free (of cost and judgment!) yoga lessons, Amanda Russell for festival-ready fitness, and Blogilates for easy workouts that target specific body parts! The best part of working out at home? You can hop right in the shower for a steamy unwinding sesh in the comfort of your own bathroom!

New Jam: If you’re feeling unmotivated to move your body, we suggest updating your workout playlist! A few new tunes might just be the thing that will have you psyched to get moving! If you’re stuck in a music slump, try browsing curated playlists on Spotify or Apple Music, ask your friends for some recommendations, or check out this list of throwback jams! You might just find your new anthem!

Get Things Done: The first step of being a certified boss babe is learning how to multi-task like a pro, so work up a sweat while you take care of business! Crank up your favorite tunes and get to work scrubbing your shower, cleaning your baseboards, or freshening up your grout. If you live in a snowy place, shoveling your own driveway and steps instead of hiring someone will save you some cash and burn plenty of calories! Organizing your closet and boxing up all your summer clothes is another great way to get your workout in and it’ll make getting dressed in the morning waaaay easier!
