Happy Birthday ADELE!

When I gave in to my instincts and bought the new Adele album on itunes the other day, the genre said “Pop”.

Now, aside from being extremely popular the world over, the sultry and soulful music of Adele just doesn’t seem to fit with mega pop stars like Britney, Usher or even “The Biebs”.

With the near Gospel first track, “Rolling in the Deep” and a strong Motown influence throughout, this bewitching Brit puts me in the mind of Diana Ross and Aretha Franklin; the infamous Queen of Soul herself! Despite hitting a high point on the first track (you probably won’t break a sweat dancing to this album) the contemporary collection of love songs are deep and full of heart. The stories are far beyond her years (23 today!) and will take you through a series of break-ups and lovelorn hauntings that are never whiny or flat.

When I heard the track “Someone Like You” I was pretty much floored, and seriously, I beg you to listen!

If you live in New York, Seattle or LA, perhaps you’ll be catching one of her U.S. tour dates.

As for the rest of us, is anyone else out there bumping this album as much as I am right now? What genre would YOU put her in?
