It’s the most wonderful time of the year, loves! Time for peppermint mochas, tights & boots, and ugly sweaters! Unless you’re a total scrooge. And in that case… Perk up, buttercup! It’s the ho-ho-holiday season, and here at LuLu*s, the bells are-a-jinglin’! Us ladies (and gents) are hard at work being Santa’s most fashionable elves, and we’re playing those holiday tunes loud!
I got to thinking about which songs put me in the most holiday of spirits, and here are some of my favorites! Some classics, one that may surprise you, and a couple that I just can’t resist!
“Baby, It’s Cold Outside” – Zooey Deschanel & Will Ferrell
I have this recurring daydream. It involves yours truly riding in a horse-drawn carriage, fresh snow is on the ground, and I am side by side with a particular sleigh bell babe known as Adam Levine. What? He’s got moves like Jagger! And yes, we are singing this song together. That’s just one reason why it is my absolute favorite! And while my and Adam’s take on the tune is simply wonderful (you should really hear it), my favorite rendition has to be from “Elf,” with pixie-blonde Zooey D. and the uber-hilarious Will Ferrell. Covered by many, “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” is always warm and romantic, the perfect melody for decorating the tree or dashing through the snow with your own holiday hottie!
“All I Want For Christmas” – Mariah Carey
The holiday just would not be complete without a total diva letting us know exactly what she wants and doesn’t want for Christmas! No, I don’t mean you, Mom. I mean the always fabulous Mariah Carey! It is impossible to not sing along when this song comes on, and good luck not having it stuck in your head until well after the new year! PS; Adam Levine, if you’re reading this, all I want for Christmas is you. K? Thanks.
“Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays” – *NSYNC
This song isn’t exactly a classic, but work with me here. Nothing says Christmas quite like Chris Kirkpatrick’s dreads or JT’s ramen hair. AND THAT VIDEO! The sad truth is that I’ve had *NSYNC’s Christmas album on heavy rotation every holiday season since it was released, and I’m only slightly ashamed to admit it! Even if you were, or are, Backstreet faithful, there is no way “Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays” didn’t melt away that icy exterior and warm you right to the core!
“Little Saint Nick” – The Beach Boys
Let me tell you a little secret. Whenever I listen to this song, I picture Santa on a surfboard in red trunks with white fuzzy trim. And he’s definitely wearing sunglasses. Oh, come on. I can’t be the only one! “Little Saint Nick” is like a beach vacation in winter, because even Saint Nick needs a day off!
“Last Christmas” – WHAM!
George Michael. Need I say more?
That does it for my holiday faves! Hope you enjoy, sugar plums!
*My sincerest apologies to the Bublettes (Is that a thing? If not, you heard it here first. Patent pending.). Michael Buble is an absolute dream, and I’m sure you were expecting him to grace this list, but I couldn’t decide on just ONE of his Christmas covers, okay?! There’s always next year!
