I learned a new vocabulary word this week while reading the Rolling Stone article about the new trio of Jay Z, Rihanna, & Kanye West: triumvirate.
According to Wikipedia: a triumvirate (from Latin, “of three men”) is a political regime dominated by three powerful individuals, each a triumvir (pl. triumviri). The arrangement can be formal or informal, and though the three are usually equal on paper, in reality this is rarely the case. The term can also be used to describe a state with three different military leaders who all claim to be the sole leader.
The music video for the song Run This Town couldn’t demonstrate triumvirate better. You have Jay-Z crowned king (by popular demand) of hip hop running the town with Kanye West (self-proclaimed king of the world of both music and fashion) and the most beautiful siren of late, Rihanna. Not to mention that this video meets all of your style questions about the up-coming season’s look to the “urban warrior”.
This “urban warrior” will be embracing layers of textured black vests, shirts, knits, tights, leggings, boots, leather, metallic studs, chains, and crazy glasses in the next year or so. And the triumviri will lead this trend towards inevitable success.
