Style File: The Met Gala 2013

Celebrity, Fashion | 07 May 2013

An annual ball for the unveiling of fabulous Costume Institute exhibits, the Met Gala has been one of the most coveted nights for fashion & celebrity to collide in a most fabulous way since 1948. This red carpet event is held at none other than the infamous Metropolitan Museum, and you can bet that every star does his or her best to wow the crowd! This year’s theme was “PUNK: Chaos to Couture,” and we were definitely witness to some of the edgiest looks to ever hit a red carpet!

Donna Karan Darlings: Emmy Rossum was flawless in bejeweled ivory and makeup to marvel, while Hailee Steinfeld wore an embellished fit ‘n’ flare that was simply perfect with her clever cat-eye!

Feisty in Floor-length: Anne Hathaway not only slayed in her “static” Valentino gown, but she debuted fierce locks that gave her that rocker edge. Allison Williams wore Altuzarra that seemed to melt into the crimson floor, and while it may not be for most, I found her brilliant & bewitching!

Katie Holmes was definitely one of my absolute favorites. She looked nothing shy of stunning while floating upon the red carpet in a white Calvin Klein masterpiece. Elegance has never looked so good!

Cut-out Cuties: Emma Watson never fails to take our breath away, this time looking as chic as ever in a sexy Prabal Gurung dress! Meanwhile, Miranda Kerr bared her bold side in sleek black Michael Kors with daring cut-outs!

Studded Sirens: Cara Delevingne was a Burberry babe in a plunging neckline adorned in spikes, a sultry smoky eye, and a punk rock side part. Jessica Alba was stunning in an embellished Tory Burch dress with studs, strategic cut-outs, and an up-do to adore!

So who was the show stopper of the incredible Met Gala? The always-fabulous Blake Lively, looking seriously gorgeous in a Gucci gown that was delightfully detailed from top to bottom! Silky layers cascaded effortlessly from a beautifully beaded waist, falling gracefully to the floor. From her choice of dramatic earrings that just grazed her shoulders to her sultry sleek pony, Blake was utter perfection in a sea of incredible creatures!

What an event! What a theme! Who took your breath away, ladies?

Manicure Monday: Floral Nail Tutorial

Guest Blogger | 06 May 2013

Today I’ll be showing you how to create a fresh, floral look for your nails! All you’ll need are a few supplies and a steady hand.

The Look:

What you’ll need:

Materials:
- 4 different colored polishes in colors of your choosing
- A striping/detail brush
- Dotting tool

Step 1 – Base Color:

Begin by paining your nails a solid base color. I chose Zoya’s Caitlin. Wait for this to completely dry, or add a quick dry top coat if you don’t want to wait.

Step 2 – Flower Petals:

Using your dotting tool or detail brush, add 2-3 small dots of your lightest polish – I used Lime Crime’s Milky Ways – in the upper part up your nail, near your cuticle. Be sure to leave enough room for your petals.

Use your detail brush to add the petals – paint short, thin lines in a semi-circle around the lower half of the dots you previously created.

 Step 3 – Flower Center:

With your darkest polish and detail/striping brush, paint semi circles around the dots you created in Step 1. Add tiny dots above the semi-circle to create the center of your flower. Using a striping or detail brush, add thin lines down the center of each petal.

Step 4 – Flower Stems:

Create your flower stems with a bright green polish and a striping brush.

**Tip** Hold your striping brush stationary over your nail and roll your nail underneath the brush to create straight lines every time.

And that’s it! Wait a few minutes and add your favorite top coat to ensure your manicure lasts.

xoxo, Lindsey @ Wondrously Polished

Jessica Hart looks beyond adorable in these retro swimsuits and patterned pieces for Foam’s June issue. Darling patterns, textures and pops of color look instantly cool against the various shades of blue. Not to mention, Hart’s orange lips, top knot and embellished sunnies scream fun in the sun and make me long for hot summer days and shimmering pools. Who’s ready for a swim?
