BeautyLove the Look: A Whimsical Updo

It all started with my desk mate and fellow blogger, Sienna.

Her long, curly locks were artistically pined up in twisted strands at the top of her head. In the midst of this gorgeous brunette nest, she had pinned a darling bird figurine perched next to two robin’s eggs. Amazing.

Then it was the girl at my favorite coffee shop, who had fashioned several blooming flowers behind her ear with her hair all piled off to the side in quirky but darling manner.

I coined it: The Whimsical Updo.

The thing I love about this hair style is that anything goes. A scrap of your favorite ribbon, an elegant peacock feather, a string of pearls, fresh picked flowers … just pin them on and attain instant “fairy tale princess” status. The more creative and cute, the better.

Let your hair go naturally wavy or add some body and texture with a sea salt spray. Pile randomly on the top of your crown and secure with a mound of bobby pins. Garnish as desired.

FashionAloha from Hawai’i! Day 4: Surf Lessons….

Dear Diary,

Day 4 and the surfing competition has commenced!

Well, ok, ok, I kinda, sorta, learned how to surf today, and despite my pathetic paddling skills I managed to actually get up on the board and then on a wave, which does equal surfing (at least in my world). Now that’s not to say that I was awesome at it or anything, but I did manage to get up and that was quite a feat to accomplish for me!

After my feeble attempt at surfing (with the help of my sister’s friend Mark) we retired home to a good ol’ fashioned BBQ … plus some super hot surfers … plus some girls in some absolutely adorable clothes… which equaled an awesome day in O’ahu!

Sierra is wearing an adorable leopard print dress that we had a while back, while Molly sports a beautifully draped vintage dress that I grabbed from the LuLu*s vintage section as soon as I could. (Keep updated on our vintage, as killer pieces come and go before you know it!) Remember to pair dresses with cute belts and killer high heels, and always top your outfit off with a pair of Claire Fong earrings.

FashionModel Off Duty: Frida Gustavsson

Frida Gustavsson closeup photo

I want to introduce you to one of my favorite up-and-coming models: Frida Gustavsson. This 17-year-old, 5’11” Stockholm native is a self-proclaimed geek, but is a natural on both the runway and on film. In January, she walked for Valentino, Armani Privé, Elie Saab, Christian Dior, and Chanel in spring couture shows in Paris.

Frida is not only a force on the runway, but also off. Below are some example of her laid back, but chic, style.

FashionAloha from Hawai’i!

Dear Diary:

Aloha from Hawai’i!! I have traveled … well, more like hopped across the ocean … to the island of O’ahu in Hawai’i for spring break.

O’ahu is the most populated island in Hawai’i and boasts both big-city fashion and remote jungle hiking. I am here to visit my sister, who lives on the tip top of St. Louis Heights, overlooking the volcanic Diamond Head crater and the city of Honolulu (the picture to the left is the view from her deck).

The sun that glares off of the beaches and the brilliant blue water around the island has inspired a week of fashionable dressing in the brightly colored patterns that reign so heavily this season.

Here is the first day of a visual fashion diary of my vacation in O’ahu. Photography by Daniel Noval. Modeled by the greatest of gals, Molly and Sierra. And styled by me with clothes from Lulus.com’s What’s New and Vintage sections, along with a few pieces I designed myself. Accessories range from vintage finds to Claire Fong’s wonderful leather, feather and fringe earrings.

You can recreate this look with the Mona Bandeau Dress by Billabong and the Fly South Earrings by Claire Fong.

FashionZooey + Bows = Adorable

I was flipping through Lucky Magazine the other day and was so inspired by this pic I found of Zooey Deschanel in an advertisement for America’s Cotton Producers. I’ve gushed about Zooey’s style before, but I thought I should point out how well she pulls off the bow trend here.

The cute little bows on her feet are a dead ringer for our Chinese Laundry Sweet Caroline Black Jelly Flats that have been literally FLYING off the shelf. I love the idea of a metallic bow necklace as well, which is why I was so

psyched to see the Maybe So Necklace in gold and silver arrive this morning.

Now, the Zooey Bow Earrings below [sold out! but available in Red] have a name not only inspired by Zooey herself, but I’m pretty sure she’d go crazy over them if she happened to stroll into the Lulu*s warehouse one day. :)
