Looks We ♥: Luxe

Fashion | 20 March 2012

Luxe. What, exactly, do I mean? I’m talking opulence, regality, excess, luxury. Gold, brocade, velvet, pearls, intricate embroidery, jewels; textures fit for a queen. It’s all about Baroque. Dolce & Gabbana got me started on this kick, then Balmain vied for my affection, and Valentino! Gorgeous! Now, I’m in love, I’m in love, and I don’t care who knows it!
I mean, how gorgeous was Jessica Chastain at the Oscars in Alexander McQueen? The gold embroidery was to-die-for!
The thing is, I’m smitten, and here’s why:

Best of Pre-Fall 2012

Fashion | 25 January 2012

by

Okay, so if you didn’t know, we just finished the pre-fall season for 2012. Below I  highlighted my 10 favorite collections from the pre-fall season, in no particular order. You can agree with me or not, it’s okay, it’s what make the world turn, you know? You can always comment with your thoughts (wink wink, nudge nudge).

*So Chanel would totally make this list (it was one of my fav shows) but we already did a blog on it. So, don’t freak out, k?

Trend Alert: Smoking Slippers

Fashion | 22 November 2011

by

You don’t have to be a shoe writer (it does help though!) to notice that the hot new flat of the season is well, smokin. (Oh, pardon me. I punned). The smoking slipper is EVERYWHERE, (LuLu*s included!), and it’s much less “Hef” and more “her” than you might expect.

Everyone from Christian Louboutin (yes, red soles included), Jimmy Choo, Alexander McQueen, and Rebecca Minkoff to Sam Edelman and Ralph Lauren have contributed to the trend, vamping it up with fun prints and colors, sparkles, spikes, studs, and even skulls. Check out some of the stars spreading the word:

Alexa Chung and SJP working the versatility of Charlotte Olympia’s super popular Kitty slipper flats (above).

Clockwise from top left: Nicky Hilton, Olivia Palermo, Ashley Olsen, and Kate Moss

Beyonce goes retro in her “Countdown” video (above).

LOVE how street style superstar Giovanna Battaglia (above) dresses hers up!

Rihanna’s got three different pairs:

And check out how much Anne Hathaway loves her “Rolling Spikes” Louboutins!

Converting flat-haters worldwide, the smoking slipper (I also have a tendency to call them loafers) adds a classic polish to any look, and hits the menswear trend on the nose. I’m particularly loving the dressed up look as an alternative to heels, especially in a more feminine, low cut silhouette.

Now, you know LuLu*s has your back on this one, so check out all of our lovely options!

Confession: I may have taken the Qupid Strip 27 home in Berry, Mustard, and Leopard (sold out), so don’t be too shy to splurge!

Looks We ♥: Peplum Dresses

Fashion | 31 October 2011

by

Peplums, flounces or basques, whichever way you call them, we are loving the flattering look of a simple peplum waistline. We give thanks to Christian Dior who added a little slice of fabric to his dresses in the forties and fifties (sparking this modern trend) though Christian himself may have been inspired by the ancient Greek Peplos, a style of dress that draped about the waistline creating the illusion of a separate top and bottom.

Moschino was ahead of the game with their fall 2011 looks, which would all make amazing holiday dresses.

Fresh looks in the fall 2012 shows included this gorgeous pink peplum dress by Jason Wu and a classic white piece by Cushnie et Ochs.

Blake Lively sporting a classic little black peplum dress.

Brighter look by Alexander McQueen and Vera Wang.

Have you had your eye on any peplum dresses?

New Alexander McQueen Ad Campaign: Artful or Cheesy?

Fashion | 09 August 2011

by

The newest images for the fall 2011 Alexander McQueen campaign just popped up August 1st with model Raquel Zimmermann in the spotlight (literally).

Since the far-too-soon passing of Mr. McQueen, Sarah Burton has been doing an amazing job with one of the world’s leading fashion houses. The fashion is incredible wowing us season after season on the runway. The fall ad campaign, however, is another story.

With graphic pops of color and a lack of realism that embodies a comic book turned action movie, I’m wondering if something seems a bit off. See for yourself:

Without adding any disrespect I’m just wondering . . . do you find these images to be a little like something you might see printed on a t-shirt in the mall?

Are the graphics a little too forced, or is the mystical drama in these shots simply part of the over-the-top beauty that the iconic McQueen line is all about?

Feel free to chime in!

Did you see these?
