MusicLuLu*s Top Ten Albums of 2013!

AM – Arctic Monkeys

As long time fans of the über-talented foursome known at the Arctic Monkeys, we were beyond stoked when this album dropped, and it has been on heavy rotation since day one. From start to finish, AM drips with cool crooning & liquid lyrics, and makes you fall even more in love with Alex Turner than  you ever thought possible.

Highlights: R U Mine?, One For the Road, Arabella

…Like Clockwork – Queens of the Stone Age

No newcomers to the rock game, QOTSA have done it again with their sixth studio album. We dare say this is the best yet, hitting harder than ever with grit and guts galore.

Highlights: I Sat By the Ocean, If I Had A Tail, Smooth Sailing

Overgrown – James Blake

James Blake is a dreamboat with a voice that can make you simply weak in the knees, and with his sophomore release, he proves once again that he is much more than a pretty face. This album is the perfect soundtrack for just about any mood, and is worth several spins. Per day.

Highlights: Retrograde, Life Round Here, Voyeur

The 20/20 Experience - Justin Timberlake

We know, we know. Justin dropped TWO albums last year. And both were so spectacular, we can’t possibly choose one, so Justin makes the list with the complete 20/20 Experience! This album is bordering on perfection, hitting all the hot spots with the jammiest of jams and ballads for broken hearts.

Highlights: Strawberry Bubblegum, Mirrors, Only When I Walk Away

The Bones of What You Believe – CHVRCHES

One of our most anticipated albums of 2013, CHVRCHES stole our hearts with the beautiful voice of Lauren Mayberry set over some of the catchiest beats our ears have ever heard! If you haven’t listened this one yet, stop what you’re doing, put it on, and dance the day away!

Highlights: The Mother We Share, Gun, Recover

MusicNew Album to Love: Arctic Monkeys

I don’t know what planet I’ve been orbiting around to not swoop down on this one the second it came out, but that’s why I have Pandora in my life to keep me in check. The Arctic Monkeys, one of my very favorite bands, dropped a new album on June 7th, titled Suck It and See.
The English indie rock band’s fourth studio album does not disappoint, just about living up to their quick success from albums past (their first album, Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not, became the fastest-selling debut album in UK chart history, according to these guys). The critics have been pretty darn positive, though it is hard to impress everybody after achieving such huge and immediate success, while still in their teen years, I might add. I’ll just say, I’ve been listening all week, and I won’t be stopping any time soon.
Their most recent video release, “The Hellcat Spangled Shalalala”, from their YouTube channel.
Arctic Monkeys is: Alex Turner (lead vocals, guitar/lead songwriter), Jamie Cook (lead guitar), Nick O’Malley (bass), and Matt Helders (drums, percussion).
If you aren’t yet familiar with these guys (or don’t think you are) check out two of the oldies that made me fall for them in the first place: Fake Tales of San Francisco and I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor. (You’ll notice that they have a pretty fabulous YouTube channel… check it out!)
