An annual ball for the unveiling of fabulous Costume Institute exhibits, the Met Gala has been one of the most coveted nights for fashion & celebrity to collide in a most fabulous way since 1948. This red carpet event is held at none other than the infamous Metropolitan Museum, and you can bet that every star does his or her best to wow the crowd! This year’s theme was “PUNK: Chaos to Couture,” and we were definitely witness to some of the edgiest looks to ever hit a red carpet!

Donna Karan Darlings: Emmy Rossum was flawless in bejeweled ivory and makeup to marvel, while Hailee Steinfeld wore an embellished fit ‘n’ flare that was simply perfect with her clever cat-eye!

Looks We ♥: Peplum Dresses

Fashion | 31 October 2011

by

Peplums, flounces or basques, whichever way you call them, we are loving the flattering look of a simple peplum waistline. We give thanks to Christian Dior who added a little slice of fabric to his dresses in the forties and fifties (sparking this modern trend) though Christian himself may have been inspired by the ancient Greek Peplos, a style of dress that draped about the waistline creating the illusion of a separate top and bottom.

Moschino was ahead of the game with their fall 2011 looks, which would all make amazing holiday dresses.

Fresh looks in the fall 2012 shows included this gorgeous pink peplum dress by Jason Wu and a classic white piece by Cushnie et Ochs.

Blake Lively sporting a classic little black peplum dress.

Brighter look by Alexander McQueen and Vera Wang.

Have you had your eye on any peplum dresses?

MTV Movie Awards: Best and Worst Dressed

Celebrity | 06 June 2011

by

Even more than watching award shows and other celeb events on TV, I love reading about them online the next day and seeing what everybody thought about the clothes and outfits. (Isn’t that why most of us watch them anyway?) This year’s MTV Movie Awards, held on Sunday, June 5 at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, California, were no disappointment. In fact, I think I enjoyed these get-ups more so than most other award shows of late.
So, after much consideration of all the glamorous gals and gowns, here are my votes:
Best Dressed
Usually Kristen Stewart can be a bit much, but here is looks youthful, classy, and elegant. I’m so glad Emma Stone went back to red — she is just plan gorgeous!
Worst Dressed
Not really sure what Amanda Bynes was thinking here. However, she does get props for creative shoes. And while I love Blake Lively, I feel like this ensemble really just made her look frumpy.
On the Fence
Liz Lee and Jessica Szohr both have some really interesting outfits here. From blue bangs to paisley all over, I’m not sure if I love them or hate them. What do you think?
In case you also care about more than what they were wearing, here is a list of some of this year’s winners:
Best Movie:  The Twilight Saga:  Eclipse
Best Female Performance:  Kristen Stewart, The Twilight Saga:  Eclipse
Best Male Performance:  Robert Pattinson, The Twilight Saga:  Eclipse
Best Comedic Performance:  Emma Stone, Easy A
Best Villain: Tom Felton, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1
Best Kiss:  Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse
Best Jaw-Dropping Moment:  Justin Bieber, Justin Bieber: Never Say Never
If you want to see the rest of the winners, check out the awards page here.

Costumes, Gamers, and Nerds OH MY!  It’s official, Comic-Con has hit San Diego!
For those of you who don’t know, Comic-Con is a four day sci-fi convention where people from all over come to find out about the latest comic book, gaming, TV, and movie news. Here are a couple of the main projects that will be featured this year:

“The Green Lantern”
Green is the IT color next summer! Adapted from the comic book, The Green Lantern follows Hal Jordan (Ryan Reynolds), a test pilot who’s been chosen for recruitment by the elite Green Lantern Corps. The Green Lantern Corps is a group of space cops who wear rings that give them “out of this world” powers (like flying!) to help keep peace in our universe.  Also featured in the movie is love interest Carol Ferris (Blake Lively) and super villain Hector Hammond (Peter Sarsgaard). There’s a lot of high hopes for this planned trilogy due June 17, 2011.

“Sucker Punch”
From the guy who brought you “300,” comes Sucker Punch, the story about a girl who’s sent to an insane asylum by her evil step father.  While there she dreams up an alternate universe which features kick-butt girls (they trained with Navy Seals!), zombies, dragons, etc. The movie features a lot of familiar faces like Emily Browning, Vanessa Hudgens, and Jena Malone. On March 25, 2011, look for this girl empowering, super natural movie.

 “Paul”
The dynamic British duo that brought us laughs with “Shaun of the Dead” and “Hot Fuzz” are back and this time with ALIENS! Simon Pegg and Nick Frost star as two nerds who road trip across America to various UFO tourists spots and conventions (including Comic-Con!). Of course, on their list is Area 51, where they meet an alien, who they name Paul. Get ready for this comedic adventure on March 18, 2011!

 ”The Walking Dead”
AMC has brought us classics like “Mad Men” and “Breaking Bad”, now they’re coming out with a new show called “The Walking Dead.”  Any guesses as to what the show is about? After an undead apocalypse, people a forced to figure out what to do with their lives. The new show based off of the comic book premires October 2010!

“Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season 8 Motion Comic”
Before Twilight, there was Buffy. Yes, I admit it, I was a huge fan of the show and now it’s back for an encore. The show’s creator Joss Whedon has been writing this comic-book series and now with it coming to an end this September, the comic book is being made into a series out on DVD this fall.

Are you keeping up with the Comic-Con News?  What upcoming show or movie are you looking forward to the most?

Did you see these?
