Blogger Spotlight: Erin of Calivintage

Ahhh, Blogger Spotlight time!! My favorite day of the week to feature the web’s best bloggers. I have been following this blog for more than two years, and Erin of Calivintage is definitely one of the most polished and put-together ladies in the blogosphere. Flawlessly combining vintage and modern, Erin has an eye for color combos that pop, ladylike dresses, and skirts as well as dreamy and beautiful bay area locations in which to shoot. Let’s take a look at some of her best outfits below.

Ummm…perfect color combo! This is the kind of outfit I will “pin” or bookmark in order to refer to great colorblocking later when I need inspiration.

So girlie and cute with just the perfect amount of vintage inspiration. Who doesn’t love a polka dot blouse with a big bow?!

Ahhh-mazing and playful. Wearing our Tulle Fire Look Out Jacket, Erin is ready to battle any chilly afternoon!

Cat-eyed perfection complete with a pop of color and a dreamy sunflare to complete the photo.

I love the rich mustard and bright red to accent our Tea at Three Polka Dot Dress! A classic shape pump really brings out the vintage look of this tea-length dress!

My favorite combo! Tortoise cat-eye sunnies, red shift dress, and blush blouse is just the best!

So cute! This outfit is so cute with the little floral vintage tie and high waisted skirt.

Always a fan of 60s-shaped dresses, this was an obvious choice for me to feature amongst favorites. Add a pair of vintage Salvatore Ferragamo flats and some maroon tights and you have an outfit I have worn variations of for at least ten years and will continue to do so for at least 30 more!

Make sure to check out Erin’s blog! She is super sweet and just full of inspiration!

Blogger Spotlight: Marla Verdugo

This week I wanted to spotlight a very talented young artist, Marla Verdugo! Marla, a stylist/makeup artist/hair stylist/photographer extraordinaire is basically a one-woman show! Creating beautiful images is like second nature to her. There is so much mood and emotion behind her photos, and I couldn’t wait to share her work with you!

Recently, Marla photographed an event we attended in Los Angeles, and I was able to catch up with her to give you guys some background, fun FAQs, and even some tips on styling and photography! Take a look below for some of her beautiful work and an exclusive interview.

I love the pose and editing in this photo!

The heavy metal jewelry plays perfect off of her blunt bangs and dark eyes.

Interview with Marla Verdugo
Intro to yourself:
I’m a California girl who can’t sit still. I’ve lived up and down the coast. Currently I live in Hollywood but miss the San Francisco life. Been doing makeup and pinup-vintage inspired photography for a few years. But I like to try things that intrigue me…like styling and fashion photography. You can also find me doing other things like; obsessing over Lindsay Lohan, thrifting, finding odd treasures on the street, stalking my friends, driving getaway cars, blogging, watching The Simpsons and making messes in the kitchen…and cracking jokes that only crickets respond to. ;)

How did you get into fashion photography?:
I first started with vintage/pinup-inspired photography…(my main love)…but after years of doing makeup on several fashion shoots, I decided to to test out my skills in shooting fashion. So I’ve been dabbling in it ever since–I love it! And I learn things everyday.

Tips for the photographer just starting out:
Seize the day. Go for your dream! Don’t let anyone discourage you. Take a class at a community college. Ask friends to model for you.Find what genre appeals to you, research different photographers…but develop your own style. ;)

Favorite beauty products:
Lipbalm: love Kiehl’s and Cherry Chapstick
Primers!!! They do wonders for your makeup.
Sunscreen: everyone should use it.
Kevin Murphy and Sunsilk: they’re on totally different ends of the spectrum, but I find they are both carry amazing hair products.

What are your “go-to’s” when styling?:
Honestly…I am very random.
1. I love textures…in dresses, pants…
2. But generally, I would have to say vintage. No matter if I’m styling for a different era or present day looks—I love to thrown in vintage. It keeps the world going and it keeps me going. Makes me happy.

Why is fashion important to you?:
Fashion is another way to express yourself, fashion is beautiful. We all have different styles…and we may not like them all and some may not like our style, but what it comes down to…is what makes us feel good. Fashion is like we are…changing, evolving, reinventing, and also going back to our roots.

Blogger Spotlight: Jenny of Neon Blush

It’s almost Christmas! This year I am giving you the gift of Neon Blush! What’s that you say? Only one of my favorite blogs! Jenny, of Neon Blush, has the effortless and cool style that I aim to achieve pretty much everyday. Great separates, perfect denim, and just the right amount of edge. Take a look and see for yourself!

For me, adding a button down shirt is pretty much de rigueur. It toughens any outfit and adds an instant amount of cool – at least in my opinion. I love pairing menswear style button-downs with girlie skirts and heels. It is a flawless combo!

Love the tough jacket and boots with the contrast of a sheer, feminine blouse!

What an amazing photo! I am such a fan of hi-lo hems and this black pleated version is just awesome!

Casual cute with a sweater, printed blouse, and boots!

I love these Mink Pink Runaway slashed denim shorts! They would even work paired with tights in the winter!

Jenny making basics her own with edgy shoes and a structured bag!

I love the attention to detail with these amazing paper-bag-waist shorts and loads of perfect gold jewelry.

More edgy, menswear details with epaulette shoulders and tweed shorts. This is a perfect combo of sweet and feminine with a fun edge to it!

Make sure to check out Jenny’s blog, Neon Blush!! Tons of inspirations and beautiful images!
