Hey guys! Im Kaelah from Little Chief Honey Bee and I am back for our final installment of how to tastefully bend some fashion rules!

Let’s just teleport to the nearest music festival like Bonnaroo or Coachella. We can lounge on the grass and listen to music that makes us feel like we’re back in the 70′s. This dress features a pattern straight from the psychedelic era and it offers no apologies! How do you wear something so bright and vivid from a very specific time all the while trying to make it work for the here and now? Instead of getting wrapped up in the circular sunglasses, braided headbands and dream-catcher earrings, I’m going to attempt to make it more modern while keeping the most color possible!

1) The print on the dress is over the top, that’s no secret. I tried to keep it daytime appropriate by adding a sage colored cardigan which can be worn in any of the 4 seasons. The sage helps balance the browns and yellows of the dress, while still remaining colorful and fun.

2) Go for a structured handbag. It’s easy to fall into a slouchy boho bag or tote for this kind of outfit. They just seem to work well together. Instead, pick a pop color for the print and go for something with buckles and flaps! You can still keep it simple while looking like it’s actually on purpose!

3) Do something fun with your shoes! I wouldn’t necessarily recommend these for galavanting around festival grounds, but I’ve seen stranger things worn! From the knees down the shoes look like a statement piece, but when you see the whole package you realize they’re much calmer than you first thought!

4) Keep it solid. This goes against practically every fashion rule I have for myself, but that’s just my style! I love to pair the most clashing prints together, but sometimes it really works to just keep it simple. In this case the dress is so fun, vibrant and overwhelming that it’s more effective to block off chunks of color to make it memorable.

Be very deliberate about what pieces you want to make a statement. In any other situation, each of these pieces out without a doubt be an attention grabber, but they don’t look too over the top when they’re all put together. It’s all about proportion, hue and placement!

What I Wore:
Billabong Davenport Dress
Qupid Cognac Burnish Chunky Heels
Carry On Mustard Yellow Purse

Erin Wasson in Elle France June 2011

Fashion | 13 July 2011

In a stunning editorial for Elle France, model Erin Wasson worked with photographer Fred Meylan to create beautiful bohemian images.  Featuring denim, leather fringe and maxis, this shoot was exactly what I needed for some midweek inspiration. Take a look below for some of the best images!
I love the rustic background with the contrast of a maxi and tousled hair.

70′s bohemian style with a perfect oversized cardigan and hat.

I love leather shorts paired with a vintage tee. So perfect for summer.

Fringed pants that only Wasson could pull off! In a vintage car with red interior, this is definitely a rad picture!

It’s time for a new lookbook!

Our Free Spirit lookbook was inspired by the Californian lifestyle of a fashionably chic chick.

This girl zooms about town on a moped and has picnics with her musical boyfriend!

A little bit fantasy and a little bit reality, this lookbook was put together for those days when you want to be girly but keep it real at the same time.

This is a relaxed style for a fabulous girl… have fun and keep updated for more….!

How Dita Does Coachella

Celebrity, Fashion | 03 May 2010

by

Dita Von Teese, queen of burlesque and hot retro style, took in the sights and sounds of this year’s Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.

Dita spent the three-day event looking flawless in a variety of outfits that adapted retro glamour for life under a sunny desert sky.

(Left): I am in love with Dita’s nautical-style, high-waisted trousers. Her updo is also rockin’, managing a put-together look that is also casual.

(Above): From the mary jane wedges to the layers of bangles, this is Dita’s awesome version of boho beauty. I love all the earthy tones on that tropical print dress!

(Above): Ladylike charm is what it’s all about in this look. Soft satin ruffles, that polished hat and a pretty chain purse keep Dita looking elegant. Psssst, recognize that lovely lady with her? Yep, it’s Katy Perry looking day-glo pretty.

What was your favorite Dita look?
