Best Dressed at the Emmys!

Celebrity, Fashion | 30 August 2010

by

Being the fashionista that I am, I am not opposed to the fact that award shows are not actually about who wins the awards but about the wonderful clothes the nominees are wearing!

So who’s outfits were your favorites at the Emmys this year?

My personal and completely biased opinion was that Anna Paquin’s Alexander McQueen gown was pure genius. Paquin stole the show completely. Not only did she honor the late designer, but chose something that represented her as a super sophisticated and strong woman.

As a die hard True Blood fan, I love everything that has do to with it (no matter how cheesy) I also enjoyed her choice of black…where the rest of the women chose soft feminine colors. I’m curious however if you think it hints towards her love for the dark vampire side?

Above, the ravishing and curvacious Christina Hendricks from Mad Men is wearing Zac Posen, with a Leiber clutch. Next to her Kyra Sedgwick in Monique Lhuillier, with a VBH clutch brings berry inspired colors out into the open for fall.

Here Emily Deschanel, in a tiered grape colored Max Azria Atelier gown topped off with Neil Lane jewels looks sweet while still commanding attention. Next to her, above, is the petite Nina Dobrev in a sparkling champagne one shoulder dress by Zuhair Murad that she paired with Brian Atwood shoes and Chopard jewels.

Trend Report: Curves Are Back!

Va Va Voom! Watch out for some hot curves ahead this fall!

I was so delighted to see a full-figured, womanly silhouette back on the runway.

I suspect actress Christina Hendricks’s Joan Holloway on Mad Men responsible for the revival (left). I mean, who doesn’t find her “all woman” curves absolutely gorgeous?

Even if the fall runway trend wasn’t solely inspired by Joanie herself, collections from both Louis Vuitton and Prada definitely drew from retro, 50′s and 60′s-style looks.

Corseted tops and cinched waists from Louis Vuitton put breasts and hips in much deserved spotlight.

The same goes for Prada, whose belted waists and tall beehives would make any gal fit to strut classic Madison Avenue.

What do you think of this full-figured trend?

Red Heads Have More Fun

Red hair is as rare as it is beautiful. A vibrant color that always catches the eye, it’s as equally breathtaking in its natural shade as in its artificial versions. Christina Hendricks, who plays Joan on the hit series Mad Men is almost single handedly responsible for making me want to dye my dark brunette locks a vibrant shade of red.

A hair color that requires a lot of upkeep, going red and staying red is a quite a commitment. It’s also crucial to capture the right shade of red for your skin tone, whether it be warm-toned and coppery or on the cool side of the spectrum with purple undertones, etc.

Have any of you lovely ladies gone a daring shade of red? If so, any tips for making it last? Also, please share what you love about being a red head!

Mad Men Fashion

Congratulations to the hit series Mad Men in taking home the 2009 Emmy for best drama!

I’ve just been getting into the series myself and couldn’t help but be struck by the gorgeous costumes and period pieces found on the characters. Set in the 1960′s, the costuming here is pure vintage wonder. I wish I had every high-waisted skirt in Peggy Olson’s closet and every darling floral dress that Betty Draper just wears around the house.

Perhaps I’ll find a little something similar in our new vintage line…
