FashionCirque du Design by Floor Knaapen

Amsterdam-based designer, Floor Knaapen, translates a fresh European aesthetic in her latest design project for Dutch design magazine, Eigen Huis & Interieur. With plenty of blushing pink, pastels, and the occasional iridescent accent, Knaapen combines her love of “…design, fashion, architecture and daily life” into a crisp, coming-of-age collection with a chic, twenty-something vibe.

Curious objects are just one facet of these well-curated assemblages involving everything from a two-story high-low hem dress paired with stratosphere-skimming platform heels, and simple crocheted swatches beside colorful journals and a leather fanny pack that somehow seems right at home.

ArtDifferent Strokes with Artist Jacqui Oakley

This gorgeous rendering of Dior Couture opened the door for me unto the prolific workings of Canadian illustrator Jacqui Oakley. Published in a long list of books and magazines, Jacqui’s work pairs inky brushstrokes with explosive color combos, and sensual contours.

Her website is also one of the most fun I’ve seen, with dozens of colorful thumbnails that reveal full shots of the work and plenty of in-process photos for some serious behind-the-scenes gratification.

FashionBlogger Spotlight: Breanne from Flattery!

This week I have been thinking a lot about winter layering and how to stay warm while still looking cute. I was recently introduced to this blog, Flattery, created by the lovely Breanne. Breanne’s blog had me visiting over and over again because she has the knack for creating super adorable outfits while staying warm in her native, Canada.

Whether it’s windy or snowing, Breanne layers up with perfect boots, tights and a cute scarf!

Another great combo with boots and sweet layers!

I love these cat eye glasses with cute ribbbon-detail tights!

I love the oversize sweater and polka dot tights!

I love tan and red together! So cute when paired with a patterned dress!

Khaki and green create my favorite outfit on Breanne’s blog!

Make sure to stop over to her site, Flattery, to say hello and get some great winter outfit inspiration!

FashionThe Mystical Jewelry of Pamela Love

With jewelry being as important to me as the clothing I choose to wear, I get so excited when a truly awesome jewelry collection sets the bar high for other designers to live up to. New York based designer, Pamela Love, creates pieces rich in spirit that seem to tell a story of another time.

With pieces that seem to be insipired by both futuristic cities and by imagery of the occult, Love’s line is pure visual storytelling. The enigmatic nature of this collection captures your attention and allows you to imagine the magical place from which these items originated. Whether they conjure up the Southwestern desert or the waters of Atlantis, the light of heaven or the darkness of hell, the end result is pure genius. Now one of the most covetable jewelry lines out there, Love’s work is being rightly celebrated.

With chunks of crystals and armloads of brass, these linear bangles and earrings are some of my favorite pieces. Almost like a favorite talisman from a roadside bazaar, these high end versions of timeless classics exercise a remarkable and powerful influence over me and evoke a deep sense of magic.

The designer, seen above, has a special understanding of the symbols of life and death and had managed to create jewelry that seem to respect those two states of the human condition. Both beautiful and macabre, this collection will stick with you long after you view its array of captivating pieces.
