Trend Alert: Smoking Slippers

You don’t have to be a shoe writer (it does help though!) to notice that the hot new flat of the season is well, smokin‘. (Oh, pardon me. I punned). The smoking slipper is EVERYWHERE, (LuLu*s included!), and it’s much less “Hef” and more “her” than you might expect.

Everyone from Christian Louboutin (yes, red soles included), Jimmy Choo, Alexander McQueen, and Rebecca Minkoff to Sam Edelman and Ralph Lauren have contributed to the trend, vamping it up with fun prints and colors, sparkles, spikes, studs, and even skulls. Converting flat-haters worldwide, the smoking slipper (I also have a tendency to call them loafers) adds a classic polish to any look, and hits the menswear trend on the nose. I’m particularly loving the dressed up look as an alternative to heels, especially in a more feminine, low cut silhouette.

I want to introduce you to one of my favorite up-and-coming models: Frida Gustavsson. This 17-year-old, 5’11” Stockholm native is a self-proclaimed geek, but is a natural on both the runway and on film. In January, she walked for Valentino, Armani Privé, Elie Saab, Christian Dior, and Chanel in spring couture shows in Paris.

Frida is not only a force on the runway, but also off. Below are some example of her laid back, but chic, style.
