Ladies We Love: Lauren Graham

News | 31 March 2010

American actress Lauren Graham just may be the coolest mom on television. Her portrayal of young mother Lorelai Gilmore, on the hit series Gilmore Girls, will always be endearing to me.

No other than Graham could portray Lorelai’s adorable stubbornness, quick wit, unstoppable sense of humor and incessant need for “coffee, coffee, coffee!”

Now, Graham plays Sarah Braverman on the new NBC series, Parenthood. Here, she’s the mom of two teens, including a rebellious daughter who makes Rory Gilmore look like an angel. Well … come to think of it, she kinda was.

Love Her Look: Krysten Ritter

You may know American actress Krysten Ritter as the “quirky friend” in shows and movies like Gilmore Girls, 27 Dresses and Confessions of a Shopaholic. Ritter’s charming characters are always a treat to watch, and the personality and individual style she brings to the screen are always inspiring.

Raven locks with blunt short bangs and translucent skin give this former model a unique look that seamlessly takes on a fun retro style. I love seeing her in pretty floral dresses and funky accessories! For more pics and info on her look, the Amy Nadine Beauty Blog is a great resourse. And don’t forget to check out Ritter’s new film, She’s Outta My League, coming this Spring!

Movie Review: Post Grad

News | 26 August 2009

by

Much of my summer has been spent frequenting the box office, seeking to escape the heat and indulge my laziness in an air conditioned building where I can eat all the popcorn I want while viewing a new cinematic adventure.

My latest adventure has been Post Grad, starring Gilmore Girls and Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants star, Alexis Bledel. Though it was a bit of a dud in the box office, Post Grad hit a major chord with me and definitely left me smiling as I left the theatre.

The story starts out with Alexis Bledel‘s character, Ryden Maldby’s, graduation from college. She has high hopes for her future, all of which she has planned out years in advance. Of course, things don’t go according to her master plan.

She doesn’t land her dream job and is forced to move back home with her eccentric family. During her stay, she does some soul searching, learns to bond with her family, flirts with the hot Brazilian guy next door, and discovers her true feelings for her long time best friend Adam, played by Zach Gilford.

I thought Bledel did a splendid job. Her character actually reminded me a lot Rory, her character from Gilmore Girls. Both are overachievers in the academic world who need to learn that real life doesn’t always go by the book.

Easily relatable to a post grad like myself, this film gives you a good couple laughs, just the right amount of heart melting moments, and a surprisingly star studded cast, including Michael Keaton, Carol Burnett, Jane Lynch and Rodrigo Santoro, and to my excitement, Demetri Martin!  With its predicable story line and often one-dimensional characters, this flick is a tad cheesy, but sometimes, we need a little cheese now and again – with a side of Jujubes and Milk Duds of course!
