New Trend: Denim on Denim

Fashion | 10 May 2010

by

Denim is like the comfort food of clothing. Rare is the girl without a pair of blue jeans in her closet, and no matter what sundress I wear, my blue denim crop jacket always seems like the perfect companion.

But denim on denim was a place I dared not venture. That is, until I saw the trend step stylishly on the Spring 2010 runway.

One trick to pulling off the trend is to mix up the washes and textures. Pair a distressed jean with a crisp jacket or a light, chambray top with dark blue skinnies.

I love the two looks pictured above from Ralph Lauren and D&G. For even more inspiration, check out the street stylin’ bloggers below found on Lookbook.nu!

How would you sport the trend?

Employee Look of the Day: Punky Stylin with Cara!

Fashion | 14 April 2010

As you might or might not know, Lulus.com is located in Chico, California, and it is a huge warehouse full of gals wearing lots and lots of cute clothes in many different ways! I realized that we don’t feature our own lovely ladies nearly often enough, so I am going to try and bring more pictures to you of our awesomely dressed employees.

We’ll start off with Cara, who is indeed our stylist and has been on the blog a few times already for her hipster “Geek Chic” style.

Cara recently fractured her elbow in a bike accident and has had to wear a sling for the past month or so! Instead of letting it bring her down Cara played up the tough look with her sling and just the right layering!

You can get this look (without breaking your elbow please!) with these items:

The Novel Idea Specs, the If Wishes Were Horses Tee, the Circle Quay Vest, the Levi’s 632 High Rise Skinny Jean in North, and the Wanted Prague Gray Girly Construction Boot in Vegan Leather!!!

Baby It's Cold Outside

After all the holiday cheer has passed and January’s bitter cold sets in, we fabulous and stylish girls may find ourselves in need of some extra layers to keep us insulated from the chills that convince us to stay in bed with the covers pulled over our heads.

For me, winter used to be a long, dreary season during which I didn’t really care about what I wore. My old college sweatshirt, go-to blue jeans, and a humongous, unflattering old coat would do just fine.

What I know now is that layering a winter outfit is an art in itself. An art that, once mastered, can have you looking quite put together and weather-appropriate whether you’re going to work, school or running a couple of errands.

My new favorite blog to visit for fashion tips is The Freelancer’s Fashionblog. This vintage lovin’ lady, (whose drawing is featured above), teaches the art of layering in her newest post, “The Anatomy of Dressing When It’s Really Really Cold.”

I love the use of the word “Anatomy,” because that’s really how technical layering can be. The Freelancer’s Fashionblog advises to use buildable layers of warm knits, wool and handy accessories to not only keep you looking cozy but cute. I’ve already borrowed some of her tips to help me out on my teeth chattering passage to work.

Accessories are my favorite part of the layering process. A hat like the Sunny Disposition Cap in Black [sold out!] will help keep your body heat from escaping. We pretty much all own this hat at the office and wear it every day, so it works!

I love layering my Argyle Addict Knee High Socks under my long john pants and skinny jeans. They go great under boots too. Last but not least, my most recent find are the High Five Arm Warmers in Purple [sold out!], which allow my hands to defrost and get typing happily again. Yay!!

Hot Trend: Zippers

Fashion | 20 July 2009

Not only are zippers functional, but fashionable too. Exposed metallic zippers are now taking center stage on the runway, and the verdict is in: Zip is Hip!

Zippers, once subtly hidden and ignored, are now one of the hottest fashion trends to be had this season. Adding a fun metallic edge, these zippers can be found adorning purses, shoes, jeans, dresses, and even jewelry. Some don’t even require having a purpose, but exist simply to satisy your appetite for edginess and fun.

From the runway to stars on the go, the zipper trend is making its way to your closet. Now, you can find some hot zipper items at Lulus.com.

Our Rebel Rebel Zipper Dress [sold out!] utilizes sleek metallic zippers atop a satiny black dress for a rebellious but pretty look. Our Anne Michelle Snobby Black Lizard and Gold Zipper Pump [sold out!] will make sure you step into this trend with style. Don’t forget our Alley Cat Handbag [sold out!], so you can easily add the zipper trend to any outfit.

Clearly ladies, it’s time to zip it!
