Fall in Love with Faux Fur!

We know you’ve heard about it.

We hope you’re wearing it.

But we’re going to tell you again, ‘cuz we here at Lulus.com we just can’t get enough of it: FAUX FUR!!!

This excitement is not without due cause: this morning, I opened the November 2010 edition of Elle Magazine and found this insanely cool spread:

(Thanks to Yenny at Studded Hearts for these pics!)

There are so many great fur textures going on here — I just want to wrap myself up in every single one of them! This is some soft you wanna get your hands on NOW!

So let’s take a look at what’s going on here: we’ve got long fur jackets, some floral maxi dresses, fur bags, fringe bags, fur boots, purple velvet, and fur vests — there are probably even some fur socks in there somewhere. I’ll bet you can see the overwhelming trend here! As you can see, then, faux fur can — and should — be worn everywhere, with lots of different outfits, in lots of different ways!

As much as I love this trend, my poor closet is sadly lacking in this department. I decided it was time to raid the Lulu’s warehouse and stock up for myself!

Here are some of my absolute favorite faux fur pieces:

Fur-iendly Feeling Handbag by Melie Bianco

This bag is great because it dresses up any outfit, be it jeans and a tee or a more tailored, business-like look.

BB Dakota Ashland Vest

Um, hello Little Black Dress! Dressing up a classy staple with soft, supple fur immediately lends a sexy, more vulnerable air to your ensemble. This is one look they won’t be able to resist.

Minx in Moscow Faux Fur Hat

I am so excited to wear this hat with a long trench coat and boots. For one thing, it’s ridiculously adorable and soft; and for another, nobody else will have it! It’s time to make a statement this fall!

Volcom Anything Goes Faux Fur Jacket

When I first tried this coat on, I decided I was going to live in it. Period. Soft, adorable, and warm — what more could a girl need? With a retro, ski-bunny edge, this jacket is calling your name!

The Anne Michelle Savior 56 Taupe Furry Fashion High Heel Boots

And finally, BOOTS!! Every girl needs a pair (or five) of fabulous boots, and these furry creations are a definite must for this fall. With a mini skirt and slouchy top, these boots are going to be my go-to shoe this season.

Alright girls, now it’s your turn: are you wearing faux fur? What’s YOUR favorite piece?

Dear Diary,

After going to North Shore, learning how to surf, and having a BBQ we decided to go on a hike through the Ma’akua gulch to swim in some waterfalls!

We drove to the East side of the island and traversed down a ravine that looked like it was straight out of Jurassic Park. At the end of the hike the walls closed in and we had to climb up a series of waterfalls to get to the end of the gulch! We got to a point where I couldn’t continue and had to watch as Mark (our guide) climbed up the face of a slippery 30 foot waterfall.

When we got home, despite being sore, we dressed up and rode our mopeds downtown for some dancing. Here’s what the girls wore out!

On Sierra the Made For Maui Dress by Collective Concepts was paired with Claire Fong earrings, a belt, and layered necklaces for an amaizingly simple but glamorous look! I threw in Sierra’s moped goggles to make for a fun and funny acessory to top off the look! Molly sports a vintage leather jacket over her shoulder and huge colorful bangles with a dress that I designed.

Reporting from Milan: Italian Craftsmanship

Here is Megan’s newest post from Milan!

But first, below is a picture from the Dolce & Gabbana menswear line for Spring Summer 2010, which featured lots of ripped denim and expertly tailored velvet coats on beautiful men with ridiculously slicked back hair. When viewing Italian fashion, one must remember that Italians have a sense of humor, and they love things to be totally over the top. So if you think it’s ridiculous, they probably do too! But you have to love it all the more!

Below this, Megan has attached a picture of a large public statue that is an abstract needle and thread. Milan is a very strong center for fashion and design. Here is what Megan has to say about the tradition of menswear in Milan and Italy.

On the dawn of men’s Fashion Week, Milan is the city to be in!
Here in Italy, men’s Fashion Week is almost bigger than women’s Fashion Week!

With menswear, the changes every season come in the details, and there is rarely anything too drastic. The focus on detail is probably because Italians take great pride with their craftsmanship, and something that I’ve learned from being in Italy is that nothing less than perfection is acceptable.

To further prove this point, I have gotten a closer look into one of Italy’s leading luxury brands.

Because the adherance to detail and craftsmanship applies across the board for all of the Italian luxury brands, I will leave them unnamed, but I got a chance to talk to someone that works as a bag tech designer for a luxury company. He was, as did others in his family, brought up in the trade of leather accessories.

The particular brand that he works for wouldn’t even considering hiring you without an apprenticeship for a number of years. To them, quality is first, always. Italians don’t play around with the craftsmanship of their leather goods: handbags, wallets, shoes, etc. They view it as something that is literally “in their blood,” and they have to do it right!

So for this upcoming Milan men’s Fashion Week, I hope you definitely check out all of the details! If you find yourself in Milan for Fashion Week, check out the schedule, throw on some sunglasses and lipstick (celeb status), and try to get into the shows!

Ciao, Baci

A quality leather jacket is a classic wardrobe staple for most, and now we’re seeing a new play on this time-tested look. The cropped leather jackets of Fall 2009 are fun and spunky.

I love seeing them paired with feminine, floral dresses. The look screams: naughty but nice!

The Headliner Vegan Leather Crop Jacket [sold out!] newly arrived here at LuLu*s is a great way to get your hands on the trend. I love the blazer collar with the studs. What a knockout!!

Did you see these?
