Trend to Try: Fuchsia Lips!

Beauty | 30 July 2012

Maybe you caught our trial of four fine orange hues last May? This time we’re playing it pink (and purple!) by testing out four fuchsia hues that will keep you rolling from morning to midnight!
1. Radiant Moisturizing Lipstick in Daphne: From the passionate company, Radiant, who works towards ending human trafficking, this light berry hue is deep enough to wear to work, but lively enough for a night out.
2. Urban Decay Super-Saturated High Gloss Lip Color in Crush: Creamy and by far the most opaque of the looks we tried, this color is the hot sauce of the group. Hot pink-gone-fuchsia lights up your lips for the ultimate finish-fetish.
3. Smashbox Be Legendary Lipstick in Fuchsia Flash Matte: Bright and pure, this berry has plenty of color, with a matte finish.
4. Milani Haute Flash in Flashy: One of the newest products from Milani, this is actually a lip gloss with a fine glittery finish. Super sweet, pink and girly!

Looks We ♥: Matte Lip Color by the Lip Bar

When I find an amazing new beauty brand I have to share it with my LuLu*s lovelies, right? Well, buckle up, because my latest treasure is the wildly awesome lip color line by The Lip Bar, a hot young company that has a daring line-up ranging from sexy corals to bright blues, and even a mint green!

OK, so maybe cotton candy blue isn’t your norm, but how can you say no to a perfect matte pink or coral orange when it’s packed full of shea butter, avocado oil, coconut oil and vitamin E . . . plus it’s cruelty-free! With the party atmosphere here at LuLu*s we just had to try them all, and we have to say that Stardust is our studio’s new favorite.

Trend to Try: Orange Lips!

If you’ve ever wondered about orange lip colors (or maybe you’re already in love) we’ve tested out four orange-hues from some of our favorite cosmetic companies.
1. Milani Color Perfect Lipstick in Mango Mambo: A coral-red meets red-orange lip color that is perfect if you’re trying orange hues for the first time, or if you have ANY coral-red hanging in your closet.
2. Milani Color Perfect Lipstick in Mandarina: Classic orange with a hint of red, this color will fit perfectly in your lipstick collection and pairs well with the ongoing tropical prints trend.
3. Urban Decay Super-Saturated High Gloss Lip Color in Punch Drunk: Creamy and by far the orange-iest of the looks we tried, this color is a high-powered, dramatic, and very urban indeed.
4. Pixi Lip Blush in Energy: A long-lasting lip stain that is sort of peachy and has a delicate shimmer. This color is great for you minimalists out there, and pairs well with pastels.

Lip Gloss Love Story: Stuck on The Gloss Stick

Beauty | 14 April 2011

How many lip products do you carry in your purse? Me: currently…well, six. Why so many? I just can’t bear to throw away the little losers that I bought, I tried, and I hated. So there they stay, occasionally slicked on for the grocery store or some other mundane activity when I don’t really care if my lips look pristine. It’s true; I’m uncommonly picky about my lip gloss, but when you think about it, how many other makeup products do you actually end up eating???

But luckily, there is hope! Nestled delicately into my lip gloss graveyard is the rock star of all lip products: Yves Saint Laurent’s Gloss Volupté Sheer Sensual Gloss Stick. I treasure this exquisite little golden tube of lip product nirvana. Available in eight sheer colors (Tangy Orange is my favorite), I adoringly describe this gloss stick as a kind of luxurious chapstick. And I mean this in an entirely praiseworthy way. Not goopy, sticky, cakey, slimy, or any other indicator of lip product unpleasantry.
Though the color in the tube appears blindingly bright, this silky, lightweight formula glides on smoothly and provides the perfect punch of sheer color. It is transparent, which is great for daytime, but I’ve been known to wear a stain underneath for a little extra splash of color at night.

Best of all, the mango scent is perfectly delightful. It’s fruity without being too Bonne Bell, and the taste is similarly satisfying. It has a mango-y sweetness minus the waxy lipstick taste I’ve grown to loathe in other products.

Now, the downside: the $30 price tag. Though I would absolutely love to slather this little wonder on my lips ten times a day, my pocketbook shrivels up at the thought, which is why I was thrilled to discover Cover Girl’s new NatureLuxe Gloss Balm.

You ladies may have seen the ads featuring Taylor Swift’s spokesmodeling debut. Though I’ve been noticing more and more copies popping up, Cover Girl’s was one of the few I could afford to take a gamble on, at $6-$8, depending where you shop. It has the smooth, balm-y feel that I like, and mango and shea butter give it a mild and pleasant enough taste/smell.

Even better, you have sixteen juicy flavors and colors to choose from (I like coral). Though it is slightly more lipstick-y than the YSL gloss stick, the price slash makes it more than worth your while. Plus, if you buy online, Cover Girl’s website has a neat little feature that helps you find the most flattering shades for your coloring.

Have you guys tried any of the other gloss stick/balm products out there? How do they compare?

Did you see these?
