Hey ladies! Today was a wonderful day here at LuLu*s! When I came in there was a box sitting on my desk, and lo and behold it was a Sephora order I placed recently! Opening the box, I became more and more excited even though I was replacing some of my favorite products and I knew exactly what was in the box. It so nice to have new products to use on our lovely models. I though this would be the perfect opportunity to tell you about some of my favorite products! Here are three things that I simply cannot function without here in our photoroom!
smashbox Photo Finish Lid Primer: This is my favorite lid primer I have used. It creates a perfect base for any shadows and allows you to build up color with a decrease in eyeshadow fallout onto the face. It has a matte finish but is not drying! In fact, according to the smashbox website, the primer contains, “Phytomoist™, a plant-based hyaluronic acid for ultimate moisturization plus skin perfecting amino acids.” This product is also great to wear alone since it evens out and perfects skin tone. Being under bright lights for hours, this is essential for our models because it keeps their makeup from creasing and wearing off. A must-have for any makeup enthusiast.
smashbox Eyelights in SmokeBox: This is a super versatile palette that allows you to go from a natural finish to a super smokey eye! I use the light beige shadow as a highlight under the brow bone and as an easy choice for a simple yet glamorous vanilla shade. The medium taupey-grey shade is the perfect shadow for a natural smokey eye. I sweep this shade across the crease and blend it up and out into a “v” shape. Then adding the third shadow, a rich carbon black with silvery sparkles, in the outer corner of the eye. The trick to any smokey eye is blending. Using a compact fluffy brush to blend any harsh lines will keep your look polished. The great thing about this palette is that you can use these shadows on their own or in other color combinations since they are so basic and so pigmented!
Nars Lipstick in Funny Face: This is the best blue-based pink I have found! I love the playful punch that the bright fuscia brings to the photos. While it may be too extreme for some people, on the right skin tone and in the right lighting this is an awesome choice. This is an very moisturizing lipstick and it has sort of a floral/fruity smell.
Check out some of the looks below using these fine products!

Spring has finally arrived, and it’s time to break out those pretty pastels and lovely pinks when it comes to lip color.
Nyla, our Lulu*s makeup artist, updated yesterday’s shoot with some great new lip products, and our ladies looked absolutely lovely.

All of us here at LuLu*s just had to have the latest addition to the photo shoot makeup bag: Smashbox’s Photo Finish Lipstick in Flirty. This pretty fuchsia shade is just perfect for any time of the day or night, and surprisingly flattering on most skin tones.
You can find it modeled on Kyndra from today’s photo shoot!
What could make a girl look more instantly glamorous than a lusciously bold red lip? Icons like Marilyn Monroe and today’s celebrities like Scarlett Johansson and Katy Perry have utilized the power of the red lip on the red carpet. Why not try it yourself at your next cocktail party or night out on the town? Follow these basic steps for a ruby red pout:
1. Prime your Lips: You wouldn’t put foundation over dry flaky skin, so don’t do the same with your lips, especially when it comes to using a bold color like red. First, exfoliate your lips so they are nice and smooth. You can do this with your favorite lip exfoliant or with a simple sugar water paste. Rinse off, dry, and apply a lip primer like NP lip primer ($15 Target).
2. Line your Lips: Lip liner is always a must for red lips. Not only does it help create a shape-defining line, but it keeps the color from fading out of the corners of your lips. For red lips, I recommend “Brick” or “Red Enriched” lip liner by MAC ($13 – $14.50 maccosmetics.com). Line your entire lip with the pencil; then go on and fill in most of your lip with the liner. This will give your lipstick staying power.
3. Time for Lipstick: Now it’s time to actually apply the lipstick! What shade you choose depends a lot on your skin tone. If you have pink undertones to your skin, give “Ruby Woo” by MAC a try ($14). It is a lovely bluish-red that compliments cool skin tones. Those with yellow undertones would be better suited for MAC’s “Lady Danger,” which is a bright coral red ($14). Medium olive skin tones will look great in “Heat Wave” by NARS, a nice red with a warm undertone. Darker skin tones would be best suited with a deep burgandy or brownish red such as “Ruby Vines” by Benefit ($18) or “Dubonnet” by MAC ($14).
Use a lip brush to put on the lipstick for a precise application.
4. Almost Done!: Now blot your lips with a bit of tissue, apply some clear gloss to add some shine, and head out on the town, hot stuff!
