The little black dress or LBD has been a major wardrobe staple for years. The LBD can be worn with classic shoes and accessories or you can choose to be playful with the look and go for more colorful shoes and accessories.
Which way would you wear the quintessential LBD? Classy or colorful?
I don’t know about you guys, but I know I go through phases when it comes to how much music I’m listening to. Sometimes it seems like every day I’m falling in love with a new record, only to fall into a slump of my old, tired favorites a week later(though I’ll never stop loving you, Radiohead). Thankfully, the last few weeks have kept me snapping up tunes like some kind of nutcracker—how festive!
Sugar Honey Iced Tea! I’m a huge fan of diva vocals and butt kicking R&B, and the latest single from this British beauty is all that and a whole lot more. I’ve been singing this song so loudly I think my neighbors are starting to get weary—but I don’t care! Seriously, give this track a listen and feel your shoulders start to shimmy uncontrollably.
Holler. This dance track from Sia is not only addictive but features a fantastic video that shows the singer’s floating head attached to a medley of hilarious puppets. Think GaGa + Seasame Street. Ha!
I’ve had a thing for this Welsh R&B singer since her debut album Rockferry. I’m so excited that she’s released a sophomore effort of equal caliber. I love the colors in this video too—and that little black dress homegirl is rocking! Well well well indeed!
When I saw “Sex and the City 2“, one of my favorite outfits was Samantha Jones’ black cut out dress. Samantha (played by Kim Cattrall) is a woman who is proud of her body and isn’t afraid to show it off. This little black dress is all about the S’s: Sleek. Sexy. And Sophisticated.
To let your inner animal out like Samantha, make sure that you check out our new Low and Behold Dress.
Lulus.com is the perfect place to provide our budgeting fashionistas with the materials they need to make the challenge of taking one fabulous piece and styling it into limitless possibilities. All of us here at LuLu*s have been following The Uniform Project, which takes the concept of transforming the little black dress to a whole new level.
The creator of this site, Sheena Matheiken, has vowed to wear the same black dress for 365 days to support the cause of education in India. In her blog she explains, “I was raised and schooled in India where uniforms were a mandate in most public schools. Despite the imposed conformity, kids always found a way to bend the rules and flaunt a little personality.”
Not only is this a concept for a cause, but it supports the challenge that many of us are living with in this time of economic turmoil and recession, looking chic everyday of the week while keeping it cheap! Also, this is a great example of breaking out of the business attire and school regulated clothing and getting in touch with our own personal fashion.
Lulus.com offers endless possibilities to make this happen! We suggest investing in the BB Dakota Kay dress [sold out!], or for a younger look, the BB Dakota by Jack Nataliaz Dress in Black [sold out!] for your staple piece. Try mixing in funky leggings, scarves, belts, and headbands to freshen up your look for less! Pieces I am currently loving include the Heartfelt Cardigan in Grey [sold out!], the Smithsonian Necklace [sold out!], the Carefree crop top in taupe [sold out!], and the Peacock Feather Hair Clip [sold out!].
Gerard Butler and Katherine Heigl lit up the screen in their just released hit, The Ugly Truth. While these hot stars wowed the audience with their passionate salsa dancing and witty banter, one thing was clear: Katherine Heigl’s wardrobe stole the show.
This romantic comedy sure had the audience rolling with laughter, but it also kept my roomate and I enthralled with the gorgeous garments Katherine Heigl’s character, Abby Richter, sported in different scenes. A romantically challenged yet gorgeous producer, Abby expressed her classic taste and need for casual work wear through her choice of outfits.
And of course there were those special occasions to satisfy our need for show-stoping dresses: a form-fitting beige dress with an exposed zipper in back sported during the aforementioned salsa scene, a little black dress donned post-makeover, and an elegant cream dress with a draped v-neck and high waisted belt worn during a dinner meeting.
Now, you can steal Heigl’s look with similar items on LuLu*s! Take for instance, the oh-so-sexy little black dress that made Gerard Butler’s character, Mike, so weak in the knees. Our Heart Throb Dress in Black [sold out!] is similar in style and shape. A svelte, form-fitting bodice and a sweetheart neckline will have you all glammed up in no time.
With a busy schedule and a news program to get on the air, Abby also needed to stay on track and on time for meetings, deadlines, not to mention her date with the hot orthopedic surgeon, and she did it all with her sweet little pocket watch necklace! Get a similar look with our Wild Goose Pocket Watch Necklace in Brushed Brass [sold out!] for punctual prettiness!
If you share a love of great fashion, Gerard Butler’s rugged good looks and a spiced up romantic tale, then you’ll love The Ugly Truth.
See the movie, get the style, and always be your own leading lady.
