Interview with Lucia!

BIOI am seventeen years of age and a fashion, commercial, and portrait photographer based in Sydney, Australia. I started taking pictures when I kind of realized that I needed to start documenting in some way or another. I don’t have the best memory, and there have been many moments when I’ve been too scared to blink because I know I just may let go unintentionally of something that later on, I will miss. Since then, I have developed a larger than life passion for it and it has led me to working with incredible artists from all around the world.

You are such a young talent; how did you get into photography?

I got into photography about two years ago. It was summer time, I had newly received a camera, and I just thought it would be interesting to start experimenting and photographing my life. I took pictures of my friends, and we would play with styling. It started and built from there, and I’ve quickly grown such a love for it since.

How would you describe your style of photography?
I always say I shoot “fashion, faces, life and love” because they are the most special to me. To be honest, I still feel like I’m trying to find my style, and it’s definitely been more defined than when I first started, which was then all about experimenting and seeing what I liked and what I don’t like, what worked and what didn’t. Right now though, all I like want to do is capture spontaneity and realness.

What kind of things inspire you?
Strangers on the streets, energy, and new places tend to inspire me the most. I’m very fascinated with human habits, and I get an incredible amount of ideas just being in a different environment. New York is pretty responsible for a lot of ideas in my head, some still in the progress of transferring to photographs!

Lucia, how did you hear about LuLu*s?
I’ve heard about Lulu*s a while back ago while I was hardly into my teenage years from a magazine that listed their personal favourite online stores.

What made you want to work with LuLu*s specifically?
One of the things I love about the store is that it’s got so much variety and that allows endless concepts to come into mind. Everything from the clothes and the atmosphere of LuLu*s stood out to me.

What kind of vibe did you want to capture with this photo shoot?
I wanted to have the vibe that Lulu*s already has, which is all about youth and having fun. We shot in a house belongs to a friend of a friend one morning and the location, with a wall shelf of books and beautiful furniture, helped significantly to establish the collegiate theme of the photo shoot.

What would be your dream photo shoot?
My dream shoot would be more of documentary style, no makeup, no pressure, just following a few friends running away and having fun during the summer. I’d always love to have a bonfire on the beach or just go on a drive out of town and just photograph every day life and the strangers we meet along the way.

Thanks so much for working with us, Lucia!

Art Inspired Fashion by Jen of Jenloveskev: Rachel Ruysch

Fashion | 31 October 2011

Hi Everyone, it’s Jen again! I am back for this month’s Art Inspired Fashion post. I hope you are all enjoying this beautiful fall season. This month I wanted to pick something that gave off a great fall vibe. I was particularly looking for a painting that had rich colors in it.  I fell in love with this floral painting by Rachel Ruysch.

It has so much depth and life in it. I especially love the pop of coral, peach and mustard colors in the flowers. Rachel Ruysch was a Dutch artist who specialized in still-life paintings of flowers in the 1700′s.

When I saw this Coral Dress I knew it was the perfect match.

I paired it with this Olive Hurley jacket because I think it creates the perfect balance just like in the painting. Can you imagine painting with such detail? This painting is so beautiful!

Paintings can be such great inspiration to pull from when picking colors for an outfit. I am totally inspired!

See you next month for the next Art Inspired Fashion post! Happy Halloween.

Art Inspired Fashion by Jen of Jenloveskev: Wayne Thiebaud

Fashion | 30 September 2011

by

Hi Friends, it’s Jen again. September is sure going out with a bang here in New England; it was 85 degrees yesterday! As much as I want cool fall weather, I am trying to enjoy the warmth while it’s still here. So, for this month’s Art Inspired Fashion post I chose this cute, colorful and painterly piece by Wayne Thiebaud.

Thiebaud was know for his use of heavy pigment and exaggerated colors to depict his subjects. I love his paintings. They have such a retro feel to them.

I wanted play off the chocolate, mint green and coral color in the ice cream. I think the outfit came out perfect to represent the sweet, carefree vibe the painting has.
This Tulle top has the cutest eyelet detail, and is the most amazing mint green color. Pair that with this BB Dakota skirt and it is a match made in heaven. Ice cream heaven that is.
Now, if only I had an ice cream cone in my hand. Then I would be one happy girl!
See you next month!
