Spring Eyeshadow Tutorial

Brighten up your beauty routine with some fresh new shadows that will give your eyes the perfect pop of color. We used three Ka’oir shadows in three easy steps for this spring-y eyeshadow tutorial.

Step by Step

1. Apply a Ka’oir shadow in Milky Way (neutral/white) to the inner corner of the eyes blending into your upper lid.

2. Pat Ka’oir shadow in Pink Slip (pink) into the outer corners of your lid and blend it inward.

3. Line upper and lower lash line with Ka’oir shadow in Party Time (aqua).

Finish with some black liner in the water line and a few coats of mascara for eyes that POP!

DIY Eye Gloss – Two Methods!

DIY Eye Gloss

Eye gloss (also known as liquid eye shadow) was all over the fall 2013 runways, yet some of the brands used like MAC are not even released yet! Before you go out and buy that expensive new eye gloss, try making it home with this easy tutorial. After researching methods that used everything from glycerin to petroleum jelly, we narrowed it down to the two easiest and least expensive methods that use materials you probably already have lying around. You can literally use any eye shadow or body glitter you have – especially a broken palette! – just crush it up and mix.

Materials Used: Milani Powder Eye Shadow in Gold Dust, Baby Oil Gel, Max Clear Lip Gloss.

Baby Oil Gel Method

Pros:

- You can use regular baby oil for a subtle, sheer look, or kick it up a notch with baby oil gel. The gel creates a slightly thicker application that is still thinner than the lip gloss method.

- Baby oil is safe enough for a baby and easy on your skin. It’s also widely available.

- Resists creasing.

- Inexpensive.

Cons:

- Coverage is more subtle than the lip gloss method.

Lip Gloss Method:

Pros:

- Thicker, dramatic, editorial-worthy coverage.

- Inexpensive.

Cons:

- Tends to be very sticky.

- Can be difficult to remove.

- Creasing.

Overall, we found baby oil gel to be the best mixing medium, but feel free to experiment and tell us your favorite in the comments below!

NYFW Fall 2013 Beauty Trends

NYFW isn’t over yet but I’ve already picked out some of my favorite beauty trends from the runways. Which trend are you currently coveting? Share it with us below in the comments!

Big Hair Don’t Care: Voluminous locks were all over the place from Kate Spade to DVF, and of course Marc Jacobs brought the trend to a new level with teased curls and a major pouf.

Statement Eyes: Eyeliner is usually a NYFW fave but eyes were taken to a new level with dark wings at Monique Lhuillier, Edie Sedgwick inspired eyes at Rag & Bone and a luscious lavender pop at Jason Wu.

Pink Punchy Pout: Shades of pink and magenta were spotted all over the runways and made all of us swoon for a hot pink lip.

Nailed It: Nude and neutral nails were a major hit for many designers but Prabal Gurung chose a skinny triangle in the midst of olive hued nails for his show and Kate Spade went edgy with almond shaped nails and an accent stud to boot!

Eye Brightening Tutorial

If your eyes ever need that extra perk, try this simple how-to. It’s perfect for any eye color, and lets you showcase the brighter side of your lipstick collection as well!

How to Brighten Eyes in 4 Easy Steps:

1. Start by applying Pixi Eye Bright Primer over entire lid, followed by a dab of neutral shimmer under the eye (we used the Pixi Eye Bright Kit No.2). Next we applied Milani Powder Eye Shadow in French Vanilla over the entire lid.

2. Line the upper lid with a white cream shadow or liner like Milani Shadow Eyez in Winter White, making sure you travel all the way to the inner corner of the eye. Start from the inner corner and line the under lid as well.

3. Just in the outer crease of the lid add a little depth with a neutral eye shadow like Urban Decay’s Toasted, and blend.

4. Highlight your brow with a white powdered eye shadow like Milani’s White Lie or Ka’oir Milky Way Light Beige Eye Shadow. Finish with a thin black cat-eye (upper lid only) and black mascara top and bottom!

Looks We ♥: Matte Lip Color by the Lip Bar

When I find an amazing new beauty brand I have to share it with my LuLu*s lovelies, right? Well, buckle up, because my latest treasure is the wildly awesome lip color line by The Lip Bar, a hot young company that has a daring line-up ranging from sexy corals to bright blues, and even a mint green!

OK, so maybe cotton candy blue isn’t your norm, but how can you say no to a perfect matte pink or coral orange when it’s packed full of shea butter, avocado oil, coconut oil and vitamin E . . . plus it’s cruelty-free! With the party atmosphere here at LuLu*s we just had to try them all, and we have to say that Stardust is our studio’s new favorite.

Bright Summer Pastels with Radiant Cosmetics

Come summer months, we are all so excited to wear bright colors, embrace feminine looks and to dress as light and airy as possible. With hazy summer days, gardens in bloom, and longer days full of light it is one of the dreamiest seasons. I for one, want my makeup to feel the same way; bright and feminine yet soft and dreamy. Inspired by the floral blooms of the season, I wanted to create a look that embodied all of my favorite aspects of summer.

I first learned about Radiant cosmetics earlier this year at a blogger event that LuLu*s attended. I was truly blown away by their mission. Their cause is simply stated on their website ,”Our mission is to help garner awareness for human trafficking by raising funds through cosmetics, to provide resources for those on the forefront of change as well as victims of trafficking”. A makeup company that helps change the lives of women around the world? Umm… sign me up because if there is an issue that I hold dear to my heart it is women’s rights. Human trafficking is one of the world’s biggest issues with over 2.5 million people involved and over 80% of that number being women. In an industry dominated by women, such as cosmetics, what better way to help those struggling and trapped in a world of forced labor.

Nevertheless, the company really caught my eye and I wanted to try out the product and learn more about it. We were sent some samples to try out in our photo room and, wow, our makeup artist, Sarah, really fell in love with the products.

Take a look below to see how Sarah, our makeup artist, used Radiant Cosmetics to achieve our Bright Summer Pastel look!

Steps to create the look:

1) Starting from the inner corner of the eye I used the yellowish Goldilocks eyeshadow to highlight.

2) Next I used the coral color Confection on the middle of the lid as the main color.

3) Then I used the pretty violet shade called Thistle concentrating on the outer corner of the lid.

4) Lastly I used the purple cream eyeliner in Tanzanite to define the upper last line and carefully made slight definition to the lower lash line by using the amazing Peacock (teal-colored) cream liner.

5) To complete the powerful pastel look, we finished with mascara, a touch of blush, and the studio’s new favorite lipstick, Radiant’sPeony. This is the perfect neutral pink shade to go with everything.
