BeautyNYFW SS14: Our Favorite Beauty Trends

Header

It’s no secret that we love fashion week! We had such a great time keeping up on the spring ’14 shows and talking NYFW around the LuLu*s HQ. Catching the  hair and makeup details that each designer pairs with their collection is one of our favorite parts of fashion week!  NYFW Spring ’14 was full of  fresh beauty trends! With bright pouts, smooth and sleek hair, gorgeous updos and more, this upcoming spring will have something for everyone. We have rounded up our favorite runway beauty looks! Browse below and let us know what you think!

KateSpade

Kate Spade was all about femininity. Bright skin and a pale lip evoked a 60′s Bardot feeling, while linear manicure’s and perfectly tousled top knots felt decidedly modern. This look has an easy sophistication that is just timeless.

PrabalGurung

Prabal Gurung went for robotic uniformity that avoided the mundane with a striking pallette of lip colors.  Hair was kept sleek with a severe side part, lots of product and following the models head shape. Skin was perfected to be flawless, almost poreless, with a super-bright lip in one of  three custom-blended shades. Give us a pop-lip and we are in!

ZacPosen

Zac Posen kept it romantic with delicate and simple makeup in a pale pallette. Updos and pretty silk flowers may not feel right for day to day but they evoke a classic femininity that we can definitely appreciate.

BadgleyMischka

Badgley Mischka opted for a wash of blue across the eyes and understated lips that when paired with vintage inspired upswept hair felt fresh and very spring. We love the bright color up to the brow. The bold splash of bright in a simple face is modern and fun! A look we will definitely try for the next spring.

RebeccaMinkoff

Rebecca Minkoff went in a direction that felt almost “boho-noir”. With a bronze flush across the cheeks, lined eyes, and  fishtail milkmaid braids, this look crossed genres yet still felt pulled together and modern. We can easily see a LuLu*s girl brekaing out some fun fishtail braids and going with an easy bronzed look for next spring!

FashionNYFW SS14: Street Style

ss14header

One of the best parts about New York Fashion Week is the street style! From celebs to bloggers to the fashion elite, the trends are alive in the streets of NY. Take a look below at some of our favorite outfits from NYFW!

brigthdress

These three ladies all have something in common: rad sunnies, bright dresses and fabulous shoes! Each of these dresses has a unique shape and cut and they all look perfectly styled for the end of summer. Which one is your favorite?

leatherdetails

Pop of color is one thing, but we are loving these pops of leather! Leather items are great transitional pieces. Wear tights under a leather skater skirt in the fall and rock the leather shorts in the summer. The leather moto around the waist is an especially chic look!

matchingseparates

Matching separates are a fun and easy way to rock prints. If you’re not bold enough yet to mix your prints, matching separates are a must! Have fun with wild patterns and take a cue from the looks above and go with a neutral shoe (nude, black or white)!

printmixmania

Print mixing isn’t for everyone but these three ladies are doing it right. Mixing prints and patterns in similar hues is an easy way to keep your look put-together and not outrageous. Would you ever try print mixing?

FashionTop 5 Favorite Collections from NYFW Fall 2013

I am through-and-through a creature of fall and winter. They are absolutely my favorite seasons – give me a jacket over a swimsuit any day.  So when it came to picking my 5 favorite collections from NYFW, well, I struggled. But I made it through to the other side! In no particular order, here are my favorite shows from NYFW fall 2013.

1. Phillip Lim 3.1: This was a natural pick for me, seeing as I would wear every single piece in this show. The neo-bohemian Harley Davidson inspired girl pulled at my heart strings. Lim named the collection “Sono Mama” which is a Japanese phrase for “as you are” which describes this show perfectly. All the outfits had the feeling of being haphazardly thrown on to create the perfect devil-may-care biker attitude.

2. Marc Jacobs: What can you even say about this show? There was so much to love. The glowing sun-like orb. The topless model. The glam. The hotpants. It brought me back to my 16 year-old self obsessed with glam rock and David Bowie (who am I kidding, I still am). Not only was the presentation out-of-this-world, but so were the clothes. Bravo, Marc, Bravo.

3. Prabal Gurung: I have to admit, sometimes the whole military theme in fashion really bores me. It has been a recurring theme in fashion for a long time, and recently, I had had my fill of it. Prabal Gurung has thoroughly changed my mind. I love the tailored feminine silhouettes combined with the masculine military colors and harnesses! Though Gurung’s collection moved me visually, it was the back story that sealed the deal for me. He created his army of “confident, self assured women” based off the Ukraine’s Asgarda, a group of women trained in martial arts to fight the culture of human trafficking in their country and empower their women peers. I’m not sure if the Asgarda is a real thing, but it’s totally badass, just like Gurung’s collection.

4. Proenza Schouler: This collection oozes of maturity, refinement, and sophistication, and I love it. This collection is such a 180 from last season, where their show was filled with vibrant, kaleidoscopic prints. They grew up a little bit with this collection, and it worked out beautifully for them. Their pieces were simple and vintage inspired, and reminded me of 50s couture, but with textures and shapes that made them more unconventional.

5. Kate Spade: It was a surprise for me, putting Kate in my top five, but it happened. I have always liked Kate Spade, but something about this seasons cheeky patterns and 80s bubblegum prints really got me. And really, who doesn’t love big hair? I’m normally and all black kind of girl but you may see me in fall prancing around in a doughnut sweater. Maybe.
