Style File: The Oscar After Parties!

Celebrity | 26 February 2013

After the party… comes the after party!
And this year, our favorite Hollywood starlets were gorgeous in glitz and glam galore.
Brilliant beading,  stunning shapes, and phenomenal floor-lengths were definitely the after party themes.

Olivia Munn and Amy Adams were effortlessly flawless in intricate gowns. Clean up-dos & subtle make-up allowed these two to simply sparkle!

Alessandra Ambrosio slayed in a sheer dress with beading that made us blush. And Kate Bosworth was perfect in a pretty mini. Both ladies proved that it really is all in the details!

Kate Beckinsale was fun & fabulous in a strapless fit & flare! She rocked a high pony and fresh face, completing one of our absolute fave looks of the evening!

Old Hollywood looked young and fresh on Amber Heard & Miranda Kerr. Their side-swept waves, red lips, and long gowns were anything but old and every bit Hollywood!

Sequins & sparkles & shimmer, oh my! Naomi Watts won us over in a shiny one-shoulder, while Rashida Jones was the epitome of class in a simple yet stunning black sequin number.

Jennifer Lawrence went from demure damsel to bodacious babe in a gunmetal gown that fit like a glove. With a to-die-for bodice and waterfall flow, we were completely taken by this look.

And she was wonderfully complemented by her tiny counterpart, the Oscar for Best Actress!

Academy Awards Beauty Winners: Mila Kunis Takes the Prize!

Beauty | 02 March 2011

Let’s step away from bashing the celebrities for wearing the wrong dresses and give some credit to the gal’s that took our breath away beauty wise!

I’d have to say, and I might be biased, that Mila Kunis rocked it. Kunis usually looks effortlessly beautiful but here we see the simplicity of her elegance and her truly natural radiance up close, thanks to Elle.com. Her stylists kept her makeup simple and her hair classic. Although she’s not trying anything new she’s definitely got the basics down!

Her runner up, in my books, was a close one with Scarlett Johansson. Johansson continues to change up her look and with her new shortened do plus orange/bronze eye shadow, to play up her green eyes, she’s looking pretty darn good. Remember to play with the color of your eye shadow based on your eye color. For instance, complimentary colors do wonders to bring out your eyes. Use brown/orange hues for blue eyes, red/orange for green, blue for brown etc.

Next up are a few that just looked great to me. Nude lips are in as you can see on Johanson, Portman, and Witherspoon. These ladies are seasoned red carpet celebrities and they know how to pull off glam as easily as it is for me to get dressed to go to the supermarket!

On both Natalie Portman and Reece Witherspoon their hair was pulled back and away from their faces specifically to show off their earrings. Also good to note, they didn’t bother with a necklace wearing earrings as stunning as theirs.

Anne Hathaway had her work cut out for her that night but her first look was the best and I’m a sucker for classic red lipstick!

Hailee Steinfeld is perhaps the only young actress besides Emma Watson that I actually enjoy watching as she matures! Thanks to Lindsey Lohan these girls have to work extra hard to re-invenet the image of youth on the red carpet.

Hailee kept her makeup age appropriate and simple. Her hair stylist threw her hair up into a simple updo with a sparkling headband to show off her darling smile!

For the after party Miss Steinfeld made red converse all the rage by taking her high heels off and sporting a pair with her custom Marchesa gown!

83rd Academy Awards: Oscar Worst and Best Dressed

Celebrity | 28 February 2011

by

Okay, guys, let’s talk Oscars. Did any of you watch last night?

First of all, there seemed to be a very strong tribute to the red carpet, with several stars flaunting their version of that classic crimson.

Radiant in Red

Jennifer Lawrence went for a more casual, effortless look, while Sandra Bullock and Anne Hathaway glammed it up a bit more with strapless cuts and red lipstick.

Feathered Friends

Halle Berry and Hillary Swank pull off this look so elegantly it doesn’t even look like they’re trying. Jealous!

Finally, my favorites. It was hard to narrow it down to the top three, but after a bowl of praline ice cream and much debate, here are my picks.

Best-Dressed

Mila Kunis continues to rock, well, pretty much everything, and this gorgeous lavender dress doesn’t disappoint. Reese Witherspoon is just classicallly gorgeous in this strapless number (secretly, I think it was my favorite of the night), and her makeup was just glowing in her interviews. And then, the lovely Hailee Steinfeld. This girl is just adorable! After watching her red carpet interview, I was wowed both by her humble, excited spirit as well as by this princess gown.

I always hate doing the worst bit, because I love all these actresses. Sadly, it has to be done.

Worst-Dressed

Amy Adams’ glittery blue high-neck gown with weird non-matching necklace did nothing for her arms or her figure. Sorry Amy! And oh, Melissa Leo. This poor dress reminded me of a doily with tinfoil accents. Sad. Finally, I actually really like Marisa Tomei’s dress, but it fit her soooooo terribly and awkwardly that she made the list.

These last three have me unsure.

On the Fence

I loved the Cate Blanchett’s hair, makeup, and skirt, but the bodice of her dress looked like something out of a future space queen novel. Also, I wanted to love Nicole Kidman’s white strapless dress, but what is going on with those weird hip accents? Anne Hathaway’s blue dress and hair were stunning, but I can’t decide if I like the weird shiny material or not.

Your turn! Do you agree with my choices? Which were your worst and best?

Red Carpet Ready!

Between The Hurt Locker taking home best picture and Best Actress winner, Sandra Bullock, giving one of the best and funniest acceptance speeches, I could have gone to bed happy after catching the Oscars last night. Yet the red carpet also put on a great show, sporting many pieces that were daring and inventive in all the right ways. Here are just a couple of my favorite looks:

Show Stopping Skirts

Love it or hate it, most couldn’t keep their eyes off of Zoe Saldana’s ruffled lavender hemline. Another head turner was Vera Farmiga’s sculpted waves of fuchsia which fanned perfectly down the skirt. Also, soft and flowy ruffled tiers of fabric looked feminine and romantic on stars like Elizabeth Banks.

Dazzling Details

Sandra Bullock’s bejeweled bodice was so elegant, especially paired with her perfect red pout and sleek hair. Charming Carey Mulligan truly pulled off the whimsical detailing of forks and keys on her black strapless Prada. I loved it, and hey, it makes a great conversation piece!

Pretty Prints

Rachel McAdams sported a strapless beauty that looked like a breathless watercolor painting while Maggie Gyllenhaal looked cool, chic and stylishly put together in her vibrant printed bodice.

Ladies We Love: Meryl Streep

Meryl Streep black & white portrait wearing hatIf you loved to hate Miranda Priestly in The Devil Wears Prada or were charmed by the bold cooking antics of Julia Child in Julie & Julia, then you have encountered the amazing talent of the one and only Meryl Streep.

From the Bridges of Madison County to her most recent film, It’s Complicated, Ms. Streep has never ceased to keep me coming back to her films. I always appreciate the way she transforms herself for each role so that you suddenly forget you are watching Meryl Streep and become completely involved with her character.

Send good vibes her way for this year’s Academy Awards, in which she is nominated for Best Actress in a Leading Role for Julie & Julia!
