Retro Fox: Brigitte Bardot

Who could be more iconic of the swinging sixties than French model, actress, and singer, Brigitte Bardot? Known for her sexy gap-toothed grin and a bouffant as voluptuous as her body, this French siren was one of the few overseas actresses to be just as well-loved in America as in her native Europe. Today we still lover her beauty, her style, and her photographic legacy.

Retro Fox: Grace Slick

What with Coachella firing up in like three weeks, and the entire 2012 festival season beginning to buzz, I thought I’d pick out one of my favorite music and style icons from the 1960′s and 70′s; Grace Slick. If the name isn’t sounding familiar, perhaps you’ve heard a little song called “Somebody to Love” or “White Rabbit”. That’s right Grace was the lead singer for Jefferson Airplane, a San Francisco-based group that helped define the psychedelic rock era.

Today we can all take a little style inspiration as we order our festival tickets and plan out our Boho looks. From paisley Kaftans to belted army jackets with beads, it’s time to soak up some killer festival digs!
Grace rockin’ it at Woodstock. I could basically just LIVE in that fringed white getup for the whole weekend.
Another day at Woodstock (left) and wearing a bright paisley Kaftan at right.
Looking very chic in the studio dressed in all black with a high ponytail, and are those the Jeffrey Campbell Benatars on her feet???

Retro Fox: Linda Hamilton

Whether you think of her as Sarah Connor from Terminator, Catherine Chandler in the eighties television series Beauty and the Beast, or Vicky from Children of the Corn, actress Linda Hamilton was undoubtedly a quintessential 80′s hottie!

I love this quaint little pic form the set of Stephen King’s Children of the Corn.

Oh the 80′s! I can’t help but admire Linda’s rosy features framed by her questionably cool haircut and braided headband.

Retro Fox: Jane Birkin

The effervescent young Jane Birkin (English-born actress and singer) was the essential Euro “It Girl” of the sixties and seventies. Often appearing with her dapper LTR, Serge Gainsbourg, this stylish lass has a photographic repertoire virtually unseen in the time period. Known for her racy antics, her timeless appeal can be attributed to a soft smile, coveted hair and a perfect taste for gorgeous fashion.

Retro Fox: Jean Harlow

If you aren’t already familiar with Hollywood’s very first platinum blonde beauty, let me introduce you to the incredible Jean Harlow!

Born Harlean Carpenter in 1911 in Kansas City, Missouri, she was the first fair-haired vixen to grace the big screen, earning her the nickname “The Blonde Bombshell” before Marilyn Monroe was even around! This, of course, dramatically increased peroxide sales and had women all over the country trying (many unsuccessfully) to bleach their hair!

”A straight shooter if there ever was one.” – Spencer Tracy

Although she lived to be only 26, Jean Harlow made an astonishing 36 movies in her lifetime, starring alongside actors like Spencer Tracy and Clark Gable. Known for her incredible flair for drama and her sparkling comedic wit, she was also the first movie actress ever to appear on the cover of Life Magazine.

Known as a leading symbol of femininity and sex appeal, Harlow never wore any underwear and always slept in the nude. She was also superstitious, wearing a lucky anklet on her left leg and always looking in her lucky dressing room mirror.

“She didn’t want to be famous. She wanted to be happy.” – Clark Gable

I’d say she did a bang-up job.
